AthOz Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Will start documenting this here, pics will be coming tonightThis is my first build in 20+ years. Basically starting from scratch: have had to buy everything. The car is a Christmas gift from my wifeThe kit itself is relatively simple, of good quality and has a bunch of bonus parts. Looking at the box art it left me a bit cold, but then I thought about a movie car, opened the box and... there's a set of Torq-Thrusts and a blanked grille... getting somewhere with this!So the idea is to build a Bullit, with some twists: 1) The back panel will be flat black;2) Will be using the Cobra Jet bonnet, air filter assy (still TBD) & headers3) Mirrors will be bullet type, which will need to be sourcedPaints are acrylic and with plenty of brushing
vamach1 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 There was a metal body version of this kit that build up into a nice Bullitt replica. Welcome back to modeling.
AthOz Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Some pics of the primed parts. I used Tamiya VOC based one. Nice primer, however the amount of paint the cap supplies is too much. Ran into some issues, mostly bubbles, due to a slow hand Using these as reference: http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1967-ford-mustang-6/ http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-ford-mustang-6/ http://bringatrailer.com/2014/10/24/90-original-j-code-1968-ford-mustang-gt-fastback/ Acrylic paints seem to need a (very) good mix before brushing. Painting the engine the first time was a huge let down. The coat I applied over the weekend ended nice and deep (although a bit rough)
AthOz Posted February 19, 2017 Author Posted February 19, 2017 Some (very slow) progress. Need to get a lamp to work at night Floorpan is nearly there, need to paint the hand brake lines... and maybe notch the frame rails (see below) Front X-member And with the engine almost there, did a quick test to see where the headers would end and... disaster. There's interference between the rails and the front pipes I could force it in place, risking breaking something; notch/grind the rails or remove the headers and use the stock manifolds
