mrmike Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 The Story McNally calls Lt. Durassie of Burglary Division at home and wakes him up. Lt. Durassie recalls the case, but doesn't know the whereabouts of the small-time hood that is also known as Jack Simcole. McNally apologizes for waking the Lieutenant at that late hour and let's him go back to sleep. McNally's informant, Zachy calls and he tells McNally that the contract had come out of no-where and was untraceable, but was immediately picked up by an assassin from South Boston by the name of Tate Bodderan. Tate is a good assassin, but still very much a small-time killer of low level people. The Build After looking over the body, I found mold lines that the hot paint had brought out and I decided to sand them out. This was the worst of the mold lines and required sanding down to the plastic to remove it. Now it's back to the paint booth for another respray! McNally will return...
mustang1989 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Looks good so far Mike. I had the emblem/ mold line issue when using automotive paint on my latest build. After smoothing all the affected areas out I sprayed several coats of primer on and allowed to cure/ dry out for 2-3 days and then shot my base coat on by dispensing it in a paint jar and airbrushing it on in thin coats and building up to avoid the seam/ badge ghosting.
Quick GMC Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 so that is an SRT with their brand new wheels. You can see here in this pic, these are the newest wheels with the crossbars between the spokes, but as of now, they are only available on the new Challenger T/A 392 and only in the black color. The T/A only comes with a matte finish hood, the car in the show has a glossy hood. Both the SRT and the T/A use the same hood. Either this is a custom car for the show, or an option that hasn't been released yet. Basically these are silver T/A 392 wheels on what appears to be an SRT. I know (I THINK) some of the previous Scat Packs had SRT badges on them when fitted with the 6.4
mrmike Posted March 23, 2017 Author Posted March 23, 2017 Thanks Cameron for the info.Thank you Joe! I may have not sanded the moldlines thoroughly enough to get rid of them completely. Like I said, I think the hot paint brought them out as a result of incomplete sanding. I washed the body this morning and will let it air-dry completely before adding any more coats of paint.
microwheel Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Mike your project is really coming along. I like the new challengers almost as much as the originals. Im sure you'll get the paint looking as sweet as the rest of the build.
mrmike Posted March 24, 2017 Author Posted March 24, 2017 (edited) Thank you Jim! The Story McNally knows of a warehouse that Jack Simcole uses from time to time and heads there with the hope of finding Tate Bodderan there. He arrives at the warehouse and walks into the Employee entrance which leads into the warehouse itself and starts wandering around with his Smith & Wesson Model 4506 and a flashlight drawn. Suddenly two shots ring out and one shot hits the wall behind him and the other hits a stack of empty pallets. He sees a person running in the opposite direction that he presumes is Tate who runs towards the receiving dock and a man door to the outside. McNally runs through the door after Tate and down an alley which leads to a deadend. Tate stops and turns around to shoot at McNally who has already stopped and is aiming his gun at Tate and squeezes off two rounds at the assassin hitting him in the chest. McNally runs over to the body and kicks Tate's gun away and feels his neck for a pulse. He then stands up and pulls his cellphone from his pocket calling Det. Lt. Troy of Homicide telling him of his situation. The Build I repainted the Challenger this morning and it looks really good! I'll let this dry for a while and start polishing and then masking for the trim. McNally will return... Edited March 30, 2017 by mrmike
microwheel Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Nice save on the paint job mike, love the color.
mrmike Posted March 24, 2017 Author Posted March 24, 2017 Thank you Jim! I like this color so much that I went out an got another can of this paint for future projects!
mrmike Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) The Story Det. Lt. Troy arrives at the warehouse that McNally told him about on the phone and he finds the Boston PI in the back alley standing near the body of the deceased assassin. Adam takes a brief statement and releases McNally from the scene. As McNally is getting into his Challenger, his cellphone rings and the caller ID shows Zachy's name, his confidential informant. Zachy relays the one piece of information that McNally has been looking for, the address of the person responsible for putting the hit out on him...Jack Simcole at 379 Bickerall Street in Mattapan, Mass. The Build After a lot of masking, I painted the trim on the Challenger with Tamiya TS-29 Semi-Gloss Black. McNally will return... Edited March 28, 2017 by mrmike
mrmike Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 (edited) The Story McNally calls Det. Lt. Troy and tells him to meet him at 79 Bickerall St. in Mattapan and Adam grabs Det. Darvell to with him. McNally arrives at what appears to be an old boarded up storefront and he parks a few doors down from the address. With his Smith & Wesson Model 4506 in his hand, he approaches the boarded up door and puts his ear to it and listens and then he kicks the door open and runs in. Det. Lt. Troy and Det. Darvell arrive a few minutes later and just in time to see a man crashing through a window and landing on the sidewalk. Adam says, "That's our cue," as he and Det. Darvell run for the front door. The Build I have started assembling the body. The decals for the grille and the taillight are way too small! I painted the grille scripts with a silver highlighter and the backup light with Model Master Acryl Gloss White paint. I was worried that the hood decal would disappear against the dark paint and that didn't happen! McNally will return... Edited March 30, 2017 by mrmike
mrmike Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 (edited) The Story Just as Det. Lt. Troy and Det. Darvell get to the storefront door, a second figure crashes through another window and they hear a commotion inside. McNally is seen fighting with a man by throwing hard punches at him with Jack Simcole struggling to get up behind him. The man goes down and McNally turns in time to see Jack stand up with his fists raised and McNally throws a hard right into Jack's face sending him back down to the floor again. He stands over an unconscious Jack and pulls his Smith & Wesson Model 4506 and aims it at him with Lt. Troy coming over and standing next to him, telling him to not shoot Jack. "Let me take him into custody and we'll testify against him and put him away for a long time." McNally looks at Adam and says, "He had Tracy killed and he wants me dead!" Adam replies, "Tracy wouldn't want this. Don't do it. Give me your gun." With a tear in his eye, McNally hands his gun over to Adam. "Now go wait for me next to your car," says Adam and McNally walks out of the store and waits by his car. Det. Darvell looks at Adam and Adam says, "Don't worry, he'll wait for me outside." Adam walks out of the store later and goes over to McNally and tells him that Jack is under arrest and with all the evidence they have, Jack will be a very old man when he gets out of prison. The Build McNally's Challenger SRT8 is nearing completion! The body, interior and chassis are installed as one unit. I still have to install the rest of the glass and lenses, air filter housing, and the exhaust tips along with touchups. McNally will return... Edited March 31, 2017 by mrmike
mrmike Posted April 2, 2017 Author Posted April 2, 2017 Thank you Jeremy! But, things have taken a sudden turn... Disaster has struck! During my attempt to add the headlight lenses, the left headlight bucket popped out and disappeared on me. After looking around on the floor, I looked at the model and found it wedged between the engine and the chassis. I carefully removed the chassis from the nearly completed model and removed the headlight bucket and in the process, I lost the headlight lens...completely gone...as the carpet gremlins have received another offering! But, this was only the beginning as the windshield didn't want to fit, even after filing down the edges to get a better fit. The windshield now has a couple of scratches and a glue spot on it and I have been polishing it to get the offending marks out. Speaking of glass, the side windows didn't want to stay in place even after gluing and letting the body sit for an hour and now those need a really good cleaning and polishing. And, of course, the side mirrors got knocked off! The paint is a mess and I have started trying to clean that up! I think, I'll set this aside for a day or two and work on something else. McNally will return...I hope...
da_ashman Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Bugger! Hope you manage to find the missing Headlight.I had similar issues when completing my Challenger, the general engineering of the kit seems to be off. Its werid how the windscreen goes in & gets sandwiches between the dash & wiper panel. Good luck hope it works out
mrmike Posted April 3, 2017 Author Posted April 3, 2017 Thank you Ash! The missing lens is no where to be found! I've looked in the chair, on the floor, under the chair mats...it gone! But, I may have an alternative...
microwheel Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Patience Mike my friend. You will get this. I have had the carpet monster eat a few pieces of builds myself. Sometimes they turn back up, sometimes not. I usually look around on ebay for a parts kit for just that reason. As for the glass, when you do get it fitting right, and Im sure you will, I usually use the Radio Controlled model air plane canopy white glue that most hobby stores carry to cement my glass in with.It dries clear and is pretty strong and doesnt leave a messy film.
mrmike Posted April 4, 2017 Author Posted April 4, 2017 Thanks Jim! I will get this one done! The carpet gremlins in my hobby room are very nasty critters and are even quicker since I have slowed down a bit over the years! I even went out and bought one of those "tactical flashlights" to shine around the carpeted floor looking for things and so far, nothing! The gremlins have got it and they are not giving it back!!! I use Testors Clear Parts Cement for my glass and it has worked well for me over the years.
mrmike Posted April 7, 2017 Author Posted April 7, 2017 The StoryA sad day indeed as McNally lays Tracy to rest. He is surrounded by her friends and family all coming together trying to find some sort of comfort in each other. After the funeral, attorney Charlotte "Charlie" Rothmann comes up to McNally and tells him to stop at her office at 6:00 PM and he tells her he'll be there. Right at 6:00 PM, he walks into Charlie's law office looking like a train wreck and Charlie brings him into her office, offers him a seat and pours him a stiff drink. She goes to her desk and gets a file folder and bring over to him and tells him to read it and she'll return in 10 minutes. The folder contains Tracy's will and a sealed envelope with McNally's name on it. It's a letter from Tracy telling McNally that he is the only person she has ever truly loved, she regrets leaving him the way she did, and how she had hoped to build a new relationship with him whether or not he was involved with someone else. He folds the letter and places it inside his jacket, and starts to cry, softly at first into an allout bawl, missing the one person he has deep down truly loved. The BuildI have finished McNally's 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 and it is posted in Under Glass. I would like to thank all those who have taken the time to view and to comment on my WIP.
KWT Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Love the story... Can't wait for the next installment.Headed over to look at it now...
mrmike Posted April 9, 2017 Author Posted April 9, 2017 Thank you Jeremy! I've got a few stories in mind for the next build. Just have to decide which one to go with.
mustang1989 Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Enjoyed following along on this build and also enjoyed the story Mike. Going over to have a look at the finished product now........................
