62rebel Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 (edited) Found this relic in Goodwill for just over two bucks, couldn't pass it up. It is a 1990 issue, brown styrene. The instructions fail to call out the FOUR induction options, ignoring the single and dual 4v carb versions. They also fail to call out the unplated versions of several chrome parts. Starting up again after a seven month hiatus, I fiddled with this one a bit Saturday, along with my Piranha and a 66 Galaxie. Have to be ready to close up shop on a moment's notice, got a curious pet who is relentless and industrious.... Edited February 27, 2017 by 62rebel
Spex84 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Cool. I had one of those brown MPC '57s (boxed as AMT) years ago, and I wrote it off as garbage. Now I'm using many of the pieces, combined with a salvaged AMT '57 vette street machine body, to build a complete car again. Doing some research has shown me that it's not as terrible a kit as I initially thought...it's just that all the parts need a TON of flash cleanup and sink mark removal!Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Snake45 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 The issues with one-piece bodies aren't bad at all and are a lot of fun to build. The two-piece "gasser" issue bodies, on the other hand, are just complete ass. I've picked up a couple of those kits though just for parts.
espo Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I might have to relook at this kit. I have several that I bought years ago and with all the bad mouthing the kit has received I have just cannibalized a couple of the kits for parts.
stavanzer Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 I've got two of the Flip Nose Gasser kits and two the one-piece '60 kits from the RC/ERTL era. I'm going to try to get the Gasser kit together.
62rebel Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 I built one of these when I was in high school; as I recall, it was either a birthday or Christmas gift as I didn't "do" drag type cars then... I used regular spray can lacquer red on that kit, many coats, until it looked like it was made of blood! polished the dickens out of it, it looked great. There's a good model in this kit once you scrape off the flash and decide where to go with it.
