Funkychiken Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 Lots of work, but not much to show for it! the interior tub is taking shape, I've cut out the moulded-in handbrake and scratched one. I've removed the moulded in gear stick and found a replacement from the spares box I've also added a rear view mirror (unseen) from the parts box. I've painted the interior roof grey (hand painted). And ended up hand painting the rear light. I might try to darken them with Tamiya Acrylic Smoke, they look a bit bright in the photos but better in real life. 3
Duddly01 Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 That is really looking amazing. I was thinking about getting the 2018 Kit to try to make a version of my 1:1 convertible, this give me hope. What are your plans for the headlights? 1
Zen Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Looking good! What are you using for exterior mirrors? 1

The headlights will be a challenge, but I have a plan A, and plan B, more to come!

I have used a pair of 92 corvette wing mirrors, slightly modified. They are not anything like the originals, but the kit will look better with them than with nothing.
Zen Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Any idea on how the mirrors & lights look like from this kit?

Funkychiken Posted December 24, 2023 Author Posted December 24, 2023 Wing mirrors are on, they are from an early 90's Corvette that I got from eBay but was a glue bomb mess, and just use for parts. I always struggle with applying wing mirrors, this is my technique - using bluetack & a glue bottle to steady. I use PVA or gel like CA.
Funkychiken Posted December 24, 2023 Author Posted December 24, 2023 Whilst completing the interior, I ave been thinking about the headlights. they are featureless. plan A is to bore out a hole, add an aluminium tube and top with PVA for a lens, then paint a black area & maybe use a file to create the shark gilles streaks, then use a piece of cut chocolate egg packaging plastic as lens covers. plan b is to clear up my attempted mods with filler & just coat with clear smoke to give the appearance of blacked out lights. I can'tremember what my plan C was, but I'm gunning for plan A to work!
Funkychiken Posted February 25, 2024 Author Posted February 25, 2024 Scratch built interior bits for the doors - as they looked bland. this is the interior door handle, window switches, and the door arm rest. the Arm rest was made from a tube that was cut down the middle to create2 halfs, the rest of it is 0.2mm thick plasticard.
Funkychiken Posted February 25, 2024 Author Posted February 25, 2024 I've added rear belts, the gear knob was taken from my parts bin. The speaker is photoetch from an R35 GTR that I'm also currently building and the and brake is scratched plasticcard. the seats were painted red - but not my best effor of masking...
Funkychiken Posted February 25, 2024 Author Posted February 25, 2024 The seats were going to be taken from a corvette. but it was too much work. I found seats I wanted in Hiroboy, but I couldn't hack the postage cost. So I ended us getting some 3D printed seats from France for basically the cost of shipping off of Etsy. they are not perfect, but you cannot see the bottom of them when installed, so you don't really notice that they are racing seats. they did require a fair bit of sanding on the backs, but they sprayed up fine - my first 3D printed purchase...
Funkychiken Posted April 10, 2024 Author Posted April 10, 2024 Interior is now complete, the dash has been assembled but haven't got a pick yet. It has flocked flooring, PE speakers and pedals
Funkychiken Posted April 10, 2024 Author Posted April 10, 2024 The final piece of the puzzle is the headlamps. the plan is to drill a hole, feed 2mm aluminium through for main beams & paint the rest + add a clear cover to make it look like a light housing. Pictures show the drilled head lights then I cut off the end of the aluminium tube & filled with PVA to mimic the bulb lens Then painted black & masked for silver. Plan B is to smoke the clear light covers. Plan C is to fill in the holes I've drilled & spray them silver, but I'm sure it won't come to that.
Funkychiken Posted June 29, 2024 Author Posted June 29, 2024 The headlights were a bit of a nightmare. This is how they look after painting. And this is how they look on the car. this was difficult to assemble, they are designed to snap into the slots (without paint) as an easy click system. then, I struggled to get some lens covers to stick over the top (because of the curved form) That's why you see the tell tale white marks of excessive Superglue This is almost done, but I need to reduce the ride hieight, at the moment it looks more like a MachE stance than a Mustang. 2
Funkychiken Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 TO adjust the ride height, I added some olasticard to raise the axle bar by 3mm at the front and 2mm at the back, thenadded some blocks under the interior tb to stick to the chassis, as it was leaving a gap. TO my mind, the ride height has been corrected, and it looks a lot better as a GT then as an SUV... Next up will post ome finished pictures! 2
