.....the best route is one of the following.....Johan   pro stock Maverick/ Comet Ford big block headers are the best IMO, but hard to get now, compared to years ago when I was building lot's of Ford super /stockers when those kit's were plentiful and cheap.....anyhow, if you can't grab a set, then the AMT 68 Shelby Cobra has a nice useable set too, and every issue new and old should have them,,,, but keep in mind either set here I mention will need some fitting, filing, and possibly slight bending in some spot's.....hope this help's you out some, and good luck..the Ace...:D

Hey AC

I'm not sure which kit you need, but I had a real 64 Galaxie tri-power 390, same as a 427 block, and had the factory 2 into 2 into 2 cast headers, very hard to get. I was cleaning them up so I could get them ceramic coated, and was filling a pot mark with a torch bracing in the little divot. AND...BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH...I blew thru the wall and ended up with a about a 1" hole...*%#¿☆♤#...boy was I pissed. The point I'm trying to make is I ended up having to use race headers for a 427. They were individual tubes that went into a collector, that I had to putty up with some asepstos goop to get em to seal, what a pain in the rump. They had to be that way because 2 of pipes were in front of the front cross member and 2 were behind it. Maybe you could simulate that set-up.

forgot to mention..using the 1960 ford frame an chassis..oldr-n-drt

Well, I am not familiar with that chassis as far as building or owning that kit, but I think my suggestions still may fit with some work.....also, a possible set, not certain if they will fit.....are the ones in the AMT 66 GALAXIE kits, not the 65 as it has none,,,,I spent quite some time filing and fitting them properly for the intended kit mentioned even though the build is not finished, the headers look great....But not sure if they are a win in your application................the Ace,,;)

Hi Ron, actually, reading your story bring's back several memories about this topic,,, big block Ford headers from way back....I have owned many car's over the year's equipped with header's and other speed equipment, but not a big cube Ford  motor. However, several friend's and such did. I totally relate to what you stated in recalling looking under the hood's of many 390, 427, and CJ car's that ran at the four different strip's I used to frequent. Shock tower's cut, hammered, torched, and pipe's bent into every configuration just to find fit somehow....but here is a story, a true one that guy's around here remember that are still with us. A local shop called RACE CAR SERVICES was in business around my area from the early 70s into the mid 80s as I recall....the owner, unfortunately no longer with us, was a drag racer that had year's of experience dating way back even then, and he liked Ford muscle even though he built and tuned all makes and was very good at it. Anyhow, he had a menu board at the front desk because back in those day's popular item's like shifters, tach's, trac bars, etc had a standard price for installation....and so did headers.... His price to install headers was 65.00, which back then was expensive, because I got my first set installed for 40.00 by another hi - po shop and that was painful back then....my point....a guy came into Race Car's shop one day in 1973 driving a mint yellow 70 Torino 429 SCJ.....he brought a new set of Hooker's with him and asked the owner to install them. Sure, call me tomorrow afternoon to arrange pick up time, was his answer. Now, he had installed dozens of set's on Nova's, Swinger's, GTO's, Chevelle's and bla bla bla....but NEVER one of these......the car was there 3 day's after he figured out the engine had to be bumped, a bunch of front suspension was  apart everywhere, and then the banging and welding started......he never charged 65.00 bucks to do header's for those again...lol...lol...:D.......thought you may enjoy that one......best, the Ace...B)

The best FE headers that are more correct for a Galaxie chassis are the headers from the Revell 68 Mustang drag/stock kit.

The cast iron headers from the 60 Starliner ,I can't remember if they are in the stock 60 are the coustom 60, the later release has both. I think are correct for this application. You can also get those headers in the 64 Galaxie superstocker and the 65 Fairlane superstocker. At least they are correct for the Nascar version. I would assume they were used in the 63 Drag version. I believe there is an article in Model Car Mag and the cast iron headers were used on the red 63.
