Hawk312 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I am struggling with my current build, a 1/16th scale Camaro Iroc. Those of you who are familiar with the kit know that it has seats that have the Firebird pattern, and not the Camaro. So I need to remove the seat inserts (done already) and somehow make and install the Camaro design. My end goal is this: Now for reference, below is the 1/8 scale Iroc interior I did. So, I took off work and I spent the last few weeks working in paintbrush, highlighting what needs to be changed in red as you see below: Any ideas on how to get that design in those areas? For the 1/16 car, I do have front seats with the pattern. I have already removed part of the pattern from the front seat to try to recreate the backs using resin. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be working out. And this will need to be nearly perfect once complete. I have tried scribing the lines on stock styrene with no luck because of the sharp bend at the top of the back of the seat. Any ideas?
GMCMAN52 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 get yourself some white miliiput a two part putty and sculpt it into the seat and while it still workable start shaping your design. It will dry to a hard surface in about 24 hours. One thing to remember is to keep your fingers wet when working with this stuff. go to u-tube and check out videos of the stuff in use.
935k3 Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Half round evergreen glued on a .010" sheet evergreen base. Make over size, heat and bend then cut to size.
Hawk312 Posted May 18, 2017 Author Posted May 18, 2017 Thanks guys. I will check out the milliput.Half round evergreen glued on a .010" sheet evergreen base. Make over size, heat and bend then cut to size.It sounds as though you have experience with this. Do you have a suggestion for glue for something like this? I am just thinking about the tight bend at the top....I would think it needs to be pretty flexible.I have tried something similar with model master liquid cement, which was too brittle for bends. Thanks!

I would use Plastruct half round because it bends better without breaking than evergreen. I use Bondene by Plastruct liquid glue or for a little more time Tamiya's extra thin cement. StevenGuthmiller Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 I've not tried it, but I've heard of guys making a mold from a pleated surface such as the tonneau cover from the AMT '59 El Camino kit & then filling the mold with acrylic craft paint in the color you choose.Supposedly, once the paint is dry it gives you a fairly flexible sheet of pleated material that can be cut to the size & shape that you need & glued into place. Draggon Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 What Steve said. I've forgotten who first posted this trick, but he used it on a pretty neat 59 El Camino Custom and it looks outstanding.
