sdrodder Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I know it probably has been asked 20 times but i cant find it anymore. When you cut some crome pieces of the tree there is some small spot without crome on it and it is most of the time noticeable. So how do you touch it up. I dont have bear metal foil so i can use that but is there anything i can use?
Brendan Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 The simplest answer is to use chrome paint and touch it up. What I usually do is strip off the chrome and use Alclad or use bare metal foil. Or you can use Duplicolor Chrome Spray Paint but it takes forever to dry.
Modelmartin Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Bare-Metall foil is simply aluminum foil with adhesive on it. Go to the kitche get a little chunk of foil and then put a small drop of white glue (Elmer's , Crystal Clear, etc.) on the bare patch. Press the foil on and squeeze out the glue. Andy
george 53 Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Florian, actualy Andy's idea is pretty good, but instead of using the foil in your kitchen, go buy yourself a Hershey bar thats got the silver wrapping,it's much thinner and more apt to follow the contours of your wheels better.I use it when I foil cast emblems off bodies.Hope this helps.
sdrodder Posted June 7, 2008 Author Posted June 7, 2008 thanks guys. It realy helps me. I will try it on my gasser. I have cut the grill from the tree and had right on top a small spot were it is gone. I will use the crome silver idea for that but for the other stuff i will use andys idea. Thanks again.
MrObsessive Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 (edited) Good ideas those are.......................But nothing drives me crazier when you've got one big, fat, mold line running along the sides of the bumper. Alclad and BMF as good as they are, can't replace the consistency of the chrome that you're trying to achieve. The absolute best way (albeit a little pricey) is to totally strip the chrome, clean up the area, and send it off to be replated to Chrometech, or to Little Motor Kar company. If you plan to enter a contest where the judges will inspect everything with a fine tooth comb, the above suggestion is a must! Edited June 7, 2008 by MrObsessive

I wanna know if these companies specialize in models, what the prep work consists of, or anything else I can;t think of. THANKS, ABE DOOLEY
MrObsessive Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Abe, you can try here for ChromeTech. They'll have the full scoop on what's up. I don't think Little Motor Kar Co. has a website, but it's run by Dale Horner here in PA, and he can be contacted at littlemotorkarco@verizon.net Both are very good at what they do........it'll all depend on your preference as to where you live, prices, etc. HTH!
m408 Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 I use a Silver leafing pen by KRYLON, found at any craft store. Quick, easy, and cheap. Of course, it doesn't compare to a re chroming job, or foiling, but works well for my level of building expectations.
sdrodder Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 thanks for all the tip. The reason i asked is i am building my gasser and i cut the grill away and there is a huge spot of no chrome. So i might paint it but i will try out the alu foil tip and the chrome paint tuch up. One question could i use aclad to touch up or would it not work? Thanks for all your help
