JUNK-MAN Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Hey guys, Started this a month ago, botched the body right out of the box. I got another one off ebay witch had a gap issue witch I did fix. I had to do away with the center seam witch looks awful. I still have to work on the left drip rails and a bit on the right side but that's not too bad, I ordered decals from model truckin.com and plan on doing like the last pic.. does anyone have a source for detail parts like wires, air hoses, springs and under cab insulation? Thanks
gotnitro? Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Most of the wires / hoses builders add around here are sourced from places like telephone wire, small diameter wire can be purchased at craft stores usually in the jewlery making isles. Small gauge solder is a favorite of mine, very flexible and takes paint easily. Fishing line works alsoSprings I just make from wrapping small diameter wire around drill bit, and cutting to desired length. I try to avoid buying the specialty stuff when possible , when most of the details can be made from common household items..Under hood insulation - cut a shop towel..like those blue ones mechanics have rolls of and glue on w white glue or tacky glue..Hope this helps get ya started
SpreadAxle Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Another thing to use for under cab insulation is aluminum foil.
JUNK-MAN Posted June 14, 2017 Author Posted June 14, 2017 Thanks, fixing junk is my other hobby so I have lots of stuff like that lying around I'm sure.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Looking Good!!Jeff covered it well on the parts. Use what you can find. Aluminum drink cans are a good source for aluminum that cuts easy and is easy to work with for making parts as well. HVAC tape works for insulation too.
JUNK-MAN Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 Got a bit done on the engine and frame this week. Not done by no means but getting there. I'm trying to add only light weathering on this one. Still waiting on the decals before I lay down paint on the body though I did get the body work finished and a final sanding done tonight.
gatorincebu Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I agree with Brian. That is looking really good ! Be Well Gator
JUNK-MAN Posted June 22, 2017 Author Posted June 22, 2017 Over the weekend I got the engine mated to the frame and I had Doctors appointment this morning so I had the day off and got one side of the engine plumbed. I plan on doing brake and fuel lines as well.
Truck parts Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 That is a great start to a cool looking build
WolfmanJedd Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Very nice! I just finished a weathered day cab dual drive. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
