Lyle Willits Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Still much work to do in the interior, but it's coming along. The 'buttons" are Tamiya clear red applied with the tip of a toothpick. Some of the "buttons" need to be fine tuned. The piping is elastic cord used for beading (my wife is into jewlery-making). The shifter plate is made from sheet plastic and "chromed" with Bare Metal Foil. The shifter is a painted ball-head pin. The Cardinal Red paint is polished out. In the photo, there appears to be lumps all over the paint, but in reality, it is smooth and there are no lumps! I think my camera got confused by the red on black backround. The boot is scratchbuilt from sheet plastic and putty and painted Tamiya Pearl White as is the rest of the interior panels. The boot will have red snaps. That's it for now, kids.
MrObsessive Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Wow! I love that interior pattern! Very Original Lyle! As far as the paint...............I've never seen a bad paint job from you Lyle.........so I'da known it was top knotch!
JayVee Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Great period styling. Makes me want a cheeseburger and A&W root beer!
Wildrice Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 That will take you back to the 50's even if you were not around back then. Awesome interior work.
Lyle Willits Posted August 14, 2006 Author Posted August 14, 2006 Wow! I love that interior pattern! Very Original Lyle! Bill, At my age, I have used up most of my original ideas. Here's the direct inspiration for the model, although I am not exactly copying this car. The model will have the stock "gold" inserts in the side spears. I found some very thin, gold foil paper squares for people who make homemade candies. It can be applied with Krystal Klear. I'll take pictures of that process for anyone else who wants to do a '57 Ford. Thanks for the compliments.
Tom Kren Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 comming together very nice Love the interior Great job!
JayVee Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Lyle, you probably already know this, but BMF also makes a gold version of BMF that could be used for the insert.

Yep, but it usually doesn't stick very well and (long ago) when I tried to rub it down and buff it, the gold wore off. Maybe I just had a bad sheet. It's also a very bright gold but the candy wrapping paper foil I'm using looks much more like the spear insert on a '57 Ford.
