I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a reissue on the XR-6.  AMT salvaged the touring as a single kit; the XR-6 probably hit the scrap pile at that point.  I've seen a number of these at shows in the past with the touring gone (presumably built) and the XR-6 pretty much intact.  I've got one like that myself.  The XR-6 just wasn't popular with model building kids back then...not much of it lent itself to kitbashing.  It was just too different.  As neat as we might think a slant six engine is now, back then it was "bigger is better".  The linoleum-gray box probably didn't help either...among the all-time worst box art for an AMT kit from that era. 

I'd bet some of us would like to see the original rod version parts for the '27 tub again...other than the Frontenac engine parts and the rear wheels, none of those parts made it into the later issues.  The stuff AMT put into the later issues is neat in its own right though.

Dismal as that gray background may be, the overall art appeal still beats the the tar out of most recent releases

Ding, ding, ding. OK Greg you hit one that would be one I wouldn't mind seeing again. Actually I liked the box art. One of the few rod versions I liked, guess because it was influenced by Indy roadster styling. And I thought the slant 6 with the Weber side drafts was fantastic. Still have one mint kit and I think enough extra salvaged XR-6 parts to put one together.

I agree. This would be a smash hit on the shelves. 

Round2 took time to reverse engineer the extra custom goodies for the '53 pickup, I'd love for them to do the same here.

There have been several on the H A M B forum lately that have mentioned Tex Smith's XR-6 Roadster . I had the original kit from 1965 and I remember the "Off beat " asymmetrical styling of the rod . I also remember the fenders being a total pain in the rear to align given the glue we had then too. Given what we have for tools and adhesives now , time MIGHT be on our side to have this kit back ....

I actually have a mint kit and someday want to build the XR-6. Dunno why but I like it.
