charger74 Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Hi this is a project i started a couple of week ago. Its an old built up kit i bought on ebay a couple of years ago. I took everything apart and when i stripped the old paint, i got a little surprise !! The plastic had king of crazed and most of the impala logos on the body where pretty damaged, so i had to take them off. After sanding the body, putting a couple of coats of primer filler and more sanding, the body is now in color. The color is bright aqua metallic. More to come !!!!
Can-Con Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Looks like you got a good start on it Eric. BTW, if you want to put the scripts back on, the MCG photoetch sheet for the '76 Caprice has Impala scripts that are correct for that car as well as loads of other stuff you can use on it.

Ron Hamilton Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Eric,Several years ago, I did a restoration of a '71, and I have a '72 , '73, '74 and 75 to bring back to life. Like Steve wrote in his thread, The Model Car Garage '76 Caprice set gives you the Impala Custom Scripts for the sail panels. The '65 Chevelle set has the C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T letters for the front of the car. The font is slightly different, but should work. I used them on my '69 SS427 build. I am sorry that I cannot post any pictures of my builds, as my pictures are in the Photobucket universe for now.
kelson Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Love the color!,i built a 92'vette convertible with it.
charger74 Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) I did a little more work on the impala. I polished the paint and did the chrome foil. I also had to mold some new tail lights. On the original ones, 5 out of 6 where kind of melted because of the old glue. I used some aluminum foil to mold them, then i filled them up with epoxy glue. When everything was dry, i cut them up to fit in their holes. Now i have to paint detail them. I also did some work on the interior Edited September 1, 2017 by charger74

TarheelRick Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Going to be one good looking Impala. Keep those updates coming.
Andrew D the Jolly Roger Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Wow, that brings back memories!! Really like the work you've done so far. Always love these resto projects! Our family had a '71 4-door for several years; it was our first car with A/C. I don't suppose they make a 4-door model, do they?
