MrObsessive Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 (edited) Hershey is only about 10 miles or so from where I live, so I went to check out the annual Tall Cedars MDA Car Show. The weather was practically perfect! Partly cloudy skies with temps in the mid 70's. Pretty much all types of cars were represented-------Street rods, to the newest hot cars on the road. Here are a few of my favorites............... You can check out the rest of the pics here.........enjoy! Edited August 13, 2017 by MrObsessive
Xingu Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Gran Coupe convertibles are pretty rare. I owned a Gran Coupe...Coupe for a few years. Thanks for sharing these.
espo Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Thank you for sharing. Great variety of makes. When was the last time you saw a Crosly a Sunbeam Tiger and an Opal all in one place ?
Modlguy Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Great shots, Bill. And looks like a terrific show. Have to pencil that in for next year.
MrObsessive Posted August 14, 2017 Author Posted August 14, 2017 Thank you for sharing. Great variety of makes. When was the last time you saw a Crosly a Sunbeam Tiger and an Opal all in one place ? Oh, I couldn't resist taking pics of those! I can't remember the last time I've been up close to an Opel Kadett GT! We had a next door neighbor back in the '70's that had one when I was in high school in Maryland. I'd like to scour around and see if anyone makes a resin of that. Airtrax maybe?? That's the first time I've EVER seen a Crosley outside of a magazine! The guy sitting behind the car was a very interesting fellow to talk to .........he had 10 of them all perfectly restored, and was showing me an album where he has one under restoration. Here's another interesting factoid about those Crosleys............. The engine block is actually stamped steel, not cast iron like every other block out there. See that shaft coming out of the generator? That's actually the shaft to turn the water pump! Crazy! This is the first I've been to this show, and here it's only 10 miles away from me-----I'll certainly be back next year!

I read an article about the industrialist who developed the Crosly, He also designed and built the concrete Liberty Ships during WW II. I had a class mate when I was a freshman in high school who was fixing up a Crosly wagon for when he turned 16. We lived in an area about 15 miles out of the small town 25 miles outside Chicago. With a 60 MPH zone on a two lane hiway with a few small hills he was afraid to drive it to school. It was fun around the neighborhood, two six foot plus guys we must have looked like a circus act.
MrObsessive Posted August 14, 2017 Author Posted August 14, 2017 The Opel I took pics of is actually an Kadette "L" model. No kits of it out there unfortunately that I know of. Sometimes I wish there were more hours in the day, as I'd love to kitbash something like that! Too many other projects looming though.............
