StockBoresMe Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I started with some filler in those ugly wiper placement holes. She'll never see the rainNow its time to cut this panel off and smooth things out! After a few passes with an xacto, a little grinding with a nail file, and some glue it's looking much betterAfter the glue dries I'll do a little sanding and add some filler and get it all smoothed out. In the pictures the panel looks a little high but i assure you the meat of it lines up fine. Its the angle of the edge on the bottom of the piece making it look odd
StockBoresMe Posted September 24, 2017 Author Posted September 24, 2017 After mocking all the pieces for the front end in place I decided to do something different. After placing a piece of tape across the grill to get an idea of what it might look like out comes the xacto againit's going to be tricky to get it to look right when this is what I have to work withAfter a little measuring and a lot of passes with my knife it's time to dip the top half in some purple power and get that chrome off thereNow I can start to see what it will look like and I'm happy with itAfter a lot of sanding and filler it will shape up. I just need to let all the glue dry overnight and I'll get right to it
Mr. Muppet Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 You're nuts, but that ain't a bad thing! LOL. Getting a bit of '40 Ford flavor from what you seem to be doing. Very interesting.
StockBoresMe Posted September 24, 2017 Author Posted September 24, 2017 After a little work with some Tamiya gray putty and some 320 grit the my work starting to shape up, I'm thinking of using the kit supplied cragars because they just seem to fit right in
StockBoresMe Posted September 24, 2017 Author Posted September 24, 2017 My biggest problem I'm having is the color. Originally I wanted to go with a black body and everything in the engine bay, the frame, and most of the suspension a coral pink. Well the pink didn't work out so now I'm toying with a lighter gold color with brown where the pink would be
StockBoresMe Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 After a night of thinking about it I dove into some more cutting. This time using a candle to heat an old xacto blade. Against my better judgement I just went right at it. I eyeballed everything and the cuts look horrible but in the end it will all smooth out. I passed over the edge where both window frames met the body with a lighter until it was just pliable enough to bend downward to mate with the roofafter a few tweaks here and there its all glued in and just needs to dry up for a day. The stock windows still fit in the frames nicely which was the main thing I was going for when I decided to chop the topThe last thing for the night was to glue in the smoothed running boards. I haven't decided if I am going to smooth them into the fenders like they are or cutting the length diagonally on both sides to taper them into the front fenders, leaving the rear fenders untouched by the running boards
StockBoresMe Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 As a mock up of my idea to change the running boards I've taken a sharpie and darkened the area I am thinking of removing
prostreeter69 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Hey Anthony:Not sure about the hood, but I'm really like the other mods you are doing. Never seen a chop done that way but looks like it worked out well I going to have to remember that one. Can't wait to see what you do next.Jon
Spex84 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 This is bold customizing! I like it so far.I'd leave the running boards intact and just blend them in.
PARTSMARTY Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 This is going in the right direction-how cool !!!
StockBoresMe Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 A little negative feedback about the hood made me speed up my vision. You can see what I'm going for. It needs a lot of sanding because right now they're far too big. After paint I plan on chroming the strips. None of the body work is final. This is all in rough shape. Needs a couple days to fully cure before I get real into it
StockBoresMe Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 I'm still on the fence with the running boards. I still want to taper them down and possibly add 2 strips of trim like I did on the hood onto the front fenders behind the tires, and as far as color I'm thinking a lime green/jade green combo in high metal flake
cobramike Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I'm liking what I see so far, but please don't ruin this great build by covering it with metal flake. If you do use restraint please.
dragstk Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 When you first showed how you were going to modify the hood/grill, my first thought was "where are you going with this?" But after seeing it, I like it.As for the running boards, Im not sure but I like that your going in a different direction with this.Build this as you see it. I am anxious to see how this turns out
StockBoresMe Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 In true "winging it" fashion I switched a couple things up and truthfully they'll probably change. For now I'm digging the look of the foose truck wheels on it with this delicious combo of colors. Root beer brown on the body, mocha frost on the frame and engine bay, and warm caramel for the interior. If I do stick with that trio I think an appropriate name for her will be "Sweet tooth"still got a lot of body work to tackle. The window frames all need some fine tuning, and once I either locate my missing scriber or go purchase another one I plan on reworking the door lines. I want them to be aboit 1/4" longer, and those hinges are definitely going to go
prostreeter69 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Hey Anthony:Really like what you did with the hood, should have just let you finished. I agree the doors could stand to be a shade longer as well. As for color, I think the Root Beer blend you are look at would really give it an elegant look.Jon
StockBoresMe Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 thanks Jon. Originally i thought i was done with the hood. Sometimes it takes another opinion for me to say " hey hes right" because it did just look like a copy of a 40 ford. I'm glad you like the Cord inspired trim. I'm glad you take the color choice as elegant because thats what I'm going for. A smoothed out elegant street rod
Modlbldr Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I like what you have done with this. Something new on an old style.Later-
