I started with some filler in those ugly wiper placement holes. She'll never see the rain20170923_215650.thumb.jpg.27457da586c150Now its time to cut this panel off and smooth things out!20170923_221409.thumb.jpg.315b85602bbd33After a few passes with an xacto, a little grinding with a nail file, and some glue it's looking much better20170923_231552.thumb.jpg.303286456baf6aAfter the glue dries I'll do a little sanding and add some filler and get it all smoothed out. In the pictures the panel looks a little high but i assure you the meat of it lines up fine. Its the angle of the edge on the bottom of the piece making it look odd20170923_231537.thumb.jpg.e8443709a898c8

After mocking all the pieces for the front end in place I decided to do something different. 20170923_220052.thumb.jpg.b0874afc1d3902After placing a piece of tape across the grill to get an idea of what it might look like out comes the xacto again20170923_220132.thumb.jpg.6fa596c72e2ef6it's going to be tricky to get it to look right when this is what I have to work with20170923_220336.thumb.jpg.4b202dd6d8abe3After a little measuring and a lot of passes with my knife it's time to dip the top half in some purple power and get that chrome off there20170923_221233.thumb.jpg.7f5cac070c6f82Now I can start to see what it will look like and I'm happy with it20170923_231721.thumb.jpg.4357cd6ae2baa8After a lot of sanding and filler it will shape up. I just need to let all the glue dry overnight and I'll get right to it

20170924_103331.thumb.jpg.e3d685764d5dbdAfter a little work with some Tamiya gray putty and some 320 grit the my work starting to shape up, I'm thinking of using the kit supplied cragars because they just seem to fit right in20170924_101937.thumb.jpg.92762a20844141

My biggest problem I'm having is the color. Originally I wanted to go with a black body and everything in the engine bay, the frame, and most of the suspension a coral pink. Well the pink didn't work out so now I'm toying with a lighter gold color with brown where the pink would be

After a night of thinking about it I dove into some more cutting. This time using a candle to heat an old xacto blade. Against my better judgement I just went right at it. I eyeballed everything and the cuts look horrible but in the end it will all smooth out. 20170924_195400.thumb.jpg.4aecab8d28faa8I passed over the edge where both window frames met the body with a lighter until it was just pliable enough to bend downward to mate with the roof20170924_195851.thumb.jpg.013de17ee2ac58after a few tweaks here and there its all glued in and just needs to dry up for a day. The stock windows still fit in the frames nicely which was the main thing I was going for when I decided to chop the top20170924_195845.thumb.jpg.524fdd0cbdceb6The last thing for the night was to glue in the smoothed running boards. I haven't decided if I am going to smooth them into the fenders like they are or cutting the length diagonally on both sides to taper them into the front fenders, leaving the rear fenders untouched by the running boards20170924_202007.thumb.jpg.d1219898cf553a

Hey Anthony:

Not sure about the hood, but I'm really like the other mods you are doing. Never seen a chop done that way but looks like it worked out well I going to have to remember that one. Can't wait to see what you do next.

A little negative feedback about the hood made me speed up my vision. You can see what I'm going for. It needs a lot of sanding because right now they're far too big. After paint I plan on chroming the strips. None of the body work is final. This is all in rough shape. Needs a couple days to fully cure before I get real into it20170926_071718.thumb.jpg.8861c91d130de3

I'm still on the fence with the running boards. I still want to taper them down and possibly add 2 strips of trim like I did on the hood onto the front fenders behind the tires, and as far as color I'm thinking a lime green/jade green combo in high metal flake

When you first showed how you were going to modify the hood/grill, my first thought was "where are you going with this?" But after seeing it, I like it.

As for the running boards, Im not sure but I like that your going in a different direction with this.

Build this as you see it. I am anxious to see how this turns out

In true "winging it" fashion I switched a couple things up and truthfully they'll probably change. For now I'm digging the look of the foose truck wheels on it with this delicious combo of colors. Root beer brown on the body, mocha frost on the frame and engine bay, and warm caramel for the interior. If I do stick with that trio I think an appropriate name for her will be "Sweet tooth"20171001_094109.thumb.jpg.f16ec6cd3db8dfstill got a lot of body work to tackle. The window frames all need some fine tuning, and once I either locate my missing scriber or go purchase another one I plan on reworking the door lines. I want them to be aboit 1/4" longer, and those hinges are definitely going to go

Hey Anthony:

Really like what you did with the hood, should have just let you finished.  I agree the doors could stand to be a shade longer as well.

As for color, I think the Root Beer blend you are look at would really give it an elegant look.

thanks Jon. Originally i thought i was done with the hood. Sometimes it takes another opinion for me to say " hey hes right" because it did just look like a copy of a 40 ford. I'm glad you like the Cord inspired trim. I'm glad you take the color choice as elegant because thats what I'm going for. A smoothed out elegant street rod
