Darren B Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Hello, I have a question about this kit. I picked it up at thrift store and was about to build it when I noticed that the engine looks to be a v-8. Now I am not a Ferrari expert, however I do know that they are well known for their v-12s? Is this an under sight for Monogram? or did Ferrari actually have a v-8 in this particular car? All google searches I get are of a really nice v-12, so I am actually beginning to believe it is a short fall for this kit and a way to make a cheaper kit to produce.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 (edited) That particular kit is a rebox of a model of a replica (Thunder Ranch, I think) like the one used in Miami Vice. It's powered by a smallblock Chebby, and is most likely on a Corvette chassis. Edited November 29, 2017 by Ace-Garageguy

Ace-Garageguy Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Here's some background on the full-scale replicas, if you're interested... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McBurnie_Coachcraft

I would rather have the real engine however, but could not pass up on the price of the kit.....

ZTony8 Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 BTW if anyone wants to build an '83 or '84 Camaro with the 305 H.O. engine this kit is the only one with an accurate air cleaner assembly to do the conversion.
oldcarfan Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Hasegawa or Fujimi made an accurate Ferrari Daytona if I remember right if you want accuracy. This one however is a kit of a kit car, built on a C3 Corvette chassis and running gear to replicate the one used in Miami Vice. They used a fake Ferrari the first seasons because of expense, both to obtain the car and the cost of maintenance for a real Ferrari. Later, Ferrari gave the show a then new white Ferrari Testarossa to use in the show. I guess it bothered them to have a fake representing the company.
