Grumpa Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Mornin", Anybody out there with a suggestion for a "rattle" can paint that's close to Pontiac's "Mayfair Maize"?
Snake45 Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 It's a pale yellow. I know Testor has something very similar in the little bottles now. Don't know if they have it in rattlecan. Closest I can find in Krylon is Gloss Bright Idea yellow. http://www.krylon.com/products/?N=159827624&paging=false Didn't see anything appropriate in the Tamiya line.
Cornpatch Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Rust-Oleum has a new color out in the rattlecan. Check it out it might be pretty close to what your looking for Rust-Oleum # 298537 Tuscan Sun (gloss)
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Testors used to have a pale yellow in their lacquer line called "Phoenician Yellow". It was a 1964 Ford color, but it looks very close to the color you're looking for. Not sure if they still make it, but it is available if you look at places like ebay. Steve
Grumpa Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 Thanks for the help Guys. I've looked at the Phoenician yellow and I think that is as close as I'm going to get. Thanks Steve.
unclescott58 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Some auto parts stores, like the O'Reilly's I work at, can get paint custom mixed and placed in spray cans for you. It may take a few days. And it may cost more than normal hobby paint. But then you can get an exact match.
Snake45 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 I saw the Testor Bug Yellow in cans at Hobby Lobby yesterday. If I were looking for Mayfair Maize and had to use a rattlecan, that's what I'd use (over white primer).
Grumpa Posted May 12, 2018 Author Posted May 12, 2018 Thanks "unclescott58" Went down to O'Rielly's yesterday afternoon, and a really nice young kid named Danny pulled out an old, and I do mean 'big" old loose leaf binder with all of DuPont's old color chips and codes. In fifteen minutes I had a large spray can of "mayfair-maize". Now I can get that glue bomb '68 GTO from Ebay done!
