can this truck be converted to a 2wd setup?  if it can be in the weeds all the better....thanks for your input....Al Rich

Yes, but it'd be a lot of work. Probably better to seek out an MPC '78 Chevy Stepside, the first and only year the (correct) 2WD suspension was offered.

To get super low your looking at a custom setup anyway so just about any A arms you can find will do the job. I robbed a set out of a modernish NASCAR kit to lower Moebius Ford.

The Revell '64/'65 Chevy pickups would also be a good donor for a 2 wheel drive chassis. They were very similar on the 1/1 trucks
