Funkychiken Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Great skilful build so far. I find most muscle cars sit too high...
rsxse240 Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 Well, I dug this back out. I've been having a multitude of self induced problems that I won't bore you with. Here's today's work. Added wires to the battery, brake lines to the master cylinder, and I used some guitar string painted black to represent the main chassis harness coming from the fuse box to the firewal I should hope to be progressing quickly to completion in the near future! Thanks for looking.
66belair Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 I have multiples of this kit in my stash, one as far back as 1995. You don't see these built very much.
rsxse240 Posted July 20, 2018 Author Posted July 20, 2018 I have this one and one other, that I had to rob the glass from because this one cracked. I would like to get a few more for some future builds of ideas I have.
rsxse240 Posted July 21, 2018 Author Posted July 21, 2018 One step forward and repaint a fender because I was stupid and dripped some CA accelerant on the paint. Now to wait a few days for this acrylic paint to fully cure and re clear the fender. GRRRR!!!
rsxse240 Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 "Why does it take so long to build a model?" they ask. Well, it's because I can't leave well enough alone. I re-detailed the brake master cylinder. Just because I like to torture myself. I finished the interior. Just basically out of the box with some attention to available details. I also have repaired the fender, painted the trim and mouldings, and installed the glass. I also made ANOTHER set of headlights because I keep giving them away. I also made a second set for the other SVO in my stash. Not much to do now, other than adding more details to the engine bay and chassis. Thanks for looking in. -Ken
Dragonhawk1066 Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Looking great so far. Nice detailing of the interior. The engine/engine compartment detailing is top notch as well as the chassis being some of the better weathering I have seen. I envy you guys that have the dexterity and patience to do brake/fuel lines on these things. It's all I can do to put on plug wires, although I am going to try battery cables and heater hoses soon and that will most likely be the extent of the smaller details for me. Super job on molding the headlight/turn signal lenses too. I really like the color, bummer about the fender but nice save. Can't wait to see this one done.
rsxse240 Posted September 30, 2018 Author Posted September 30, 2018 Some more work done on the SVO. The stock wheels just weren't going to be sufficient so I dug out some older, era correct wheels from the spare wheels stash. I THINK they're Aoshima or Fujimi. With the new wheels, I had to make axle adapters. Broke out the drill and emry board and went to work. I then realized the spokes were VERY open and it looked terrible without brakes, so I went to the parts box again and found some Brembo brakes from Fujimi. There was only details on one side, so I carved up some plastic and some aluminum tube to represent the back of the caliper and a fresh air scoop for the rotor. In the picture above, you can also see the axle ends and brake caliper bracket that was also scratch built from sheet styrene. Here is a mock up of the whole shebang. The wheels are not true to life with the giant inner lip, so I checked them in the lathe and corrected the issue. (Last picture) They definitely look better. To get the whole assembly together, I'll have to build it into the wheel and I'm not quite ready for that. Thanks for looking!
rsxse240 Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 Can you believe, I am making ANOTHER update! Some front struts made from brass, aluminum, and kit hubs. I had to get up from the bench because me eyes were getting too much of a workout. That may or may not be red paint, just in case you might be a bit queezy.
rsxse240 Posted October 26, 2018 Author Posted October 26, 2018 I made a bolt for the brake caliper bracket. 7 more to go. Here is a quick video on how I did it. Here it is installed on the caliper bracket. Thanks for watching!
rsxse240 Posted October 28, 2018 Author Posted October 28, 2018 Fiddling around with this one some more. I was able to permanently mount the engine and transmission. Just a little more detailing and the engine bay will be done.
Tonioseven Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Ken, you've not lost a beat! Fantastic work as usual!! And thank you again for the wheels you sent me YEARS ago!!
oldnslow Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 looking good , your eye for detail is of the chart , and some red , just in time for Halloween !

Thanks for the compliment, Robert! Being an automotive technician by trade helps with details and things like where and how things get dirty, how some parts are new some are old, it is very helpful.

I'll make sure to tag you in the pictures!!
BigTallDad Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Do you plan on installing the windshield washer reservoir?

On the Revellogram SVO, it is represented by the shape on top of the fuse box, by the battery. I painted it white. I also plan to build a coolant reservoir and mount it by the battery at the radiator core support. I think the MPC/AMT kit carries over inaccuracies from earlier version of the fox mustang. The coolant bottle you show is not an accurate detail, which is simply a kit flaw. I think yours looks great. I also have taken a LOT of liberties to make it look busy, even if it isn't 100% accurate.

My youngest son had an '85 SVO and we spent more than a few hours spinning wrenches on it. Based on those times spent together, the thermostat housing shown in your picture is not that of an '85 (or an '85 and 1/2). I built a model and did a WIP on it, but rather than hijack your thread, I'll let you search for it (if you're interested) Edited November 4, 2018 by BigTallDad
rsxse240 Posted November 4, 2018 Author Posted November 4, 2018 True. Just another one of the many inaccuracies of the kit. I'm not worried about it. Just like in real life, it could be a 2.3 from a ranger or t-bird that was swapped in. It looks the part. Lol
rsxse240 Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 Minor update....that took for.....EEEVERRR to make! I fabbed up some vacuum lines, re made the brake booster line, and the most challenging part, the throttle cable and linkage. Enough typing, my eyes hurt. I gotta rest. Here is the spiral/return spring. Now here is the part that was frustrating. I made a fuel rail that didn't fit, so I just left it off, save it for another build. Thanks for watching
1972coronet Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Aw , man ! Perhaps a carefully wet sanding with 12,000 grit paper will dress it down ? Repaint the whole fender ; should (hopefully) blend ...
