gtx6970 Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 is there one avail. Im not real interested in 1.24th scale unless its my only option ( I already have the Baldwin Motion kit to build if I got that route) if more then one, which is best ,,,and why ?
afx Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) The Sunny/Academy/Minicraft kit is a 427 body on a 289 chassis. It can be converted to the correct twin A-arm coil-over suspension for the 427 but it takes some work. Edited March 18, 2018 by afx
MrObsessive Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 JC, I always thought of that Sunny kit as an FIA car, and not a true 427. It's body doesn't seem to have enough "bulk" to be a real 427. I've had the original kit for many years..........it's somewhere in my pile of forgotten kits!
afx Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) Bill, I've built the Sunny kit both as a 427 and a FIA roadster. The FIA car required more modifications which I'll get into in a moment. First here is a photo with the Revellogram 427 (red body) next to the Sunny, I think the fender shapes compare favorably. If your unconvinced there was a run of approximately 32 cars that received narrower body work at the rear so you could always claim your build is one of the "narrow wing" cars. Now the FIA, the roadster retained the original 289's "D" shaped grille opening compared to the oval shape of the 427. This shot shows the stock Sunny (gold body) next to my modified body. The FIA car also used the "cut back" doors and the side pipes did not pass though the fender. Here I rescribed the door lines and filled the fender openings. Some (not all) of the FIA cars had the suitcase bumps added to the trunk lid before they were sent to Europe to comply with the FIA rules of the day. Finally, the Sunny kit, which is a modified AMT 289, has the correct transverse leaf spring suspension for the FIA car. It doesn't provide the correct coil over suspension for the 427. No suggesting the Sunny kit is perfect but in 1/25 scale it's the only option I am aware of and can be built into descent replicas of both cars.
