Hi all:

I've been searching high and low without much luck -- but I know someone here has the answer (and maybe some pictures).

I'm getting ready to build an IH 4270 kit (the Ertl 1/25 kit) for the TAT 2018, and the box art shows the Cummins 903 as red in color.  Well, I've only managed to find  *one* 1:1 picture of a 4200 with a 903 in it, and that engine was black.  I'm not sure if the box at is wrong ?   Or maybe that particular 4200 had a re-man 903 in it  ??

Here is the link to the photos -- note the description says "low mile overhaul":   https://www.auctiontime.com/listings/trucks/auctions/online/7595459/1972-international-4200?ohid=7595459&SCF=True

Any info or photos would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

For the age of the truck, I would go with International Red (Testors Red is a good match) for your Cummins V903.  I believe from the factory the V903 & V903T were gray.

Yes International had the engine manufacturers to paint the engines delivered to them red but that ended sometime in the 70's...I don't know exactly when, the 903 was otherwise originally dark grey from the Cummins factory.
So you can go either way.

Thanks for the posts.

A guy over on Hank's forum drove a couple of IH's with 903's and he confirmed they came red.

Just like for Pete and KW, the Cummins engines stopped shipping painted white along the same time in the mid 70's.
