Jim N Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Great looking Firebird. That is my favorite of all of them.
ssroczyn Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Very Nice Build! I was admiring the paint job and I had to re-read the paint that you used. When I was first going over your post I saw Testors and I had just assumed you had used the Testors one coat lacquer. Because the paint looks really great on that car. But then I remembered that there is no Red Pearl for the one coat lacquer so I went back to re-read what you did use. And that's the Acrylic Paint in those tall square bottles! You did a great job with those. When I first saw them, I bought a handful and played around for a bit was wasn't quite sure how to get good results, especially on the body of a car. But after seeing what you did, I'm really going to have to go back and revisit this. Nice Job! When using those paints can you talk about what you did to get such a nice finish? And, I have this kit as well, how was it trying to fit the body over the chassis, any tips there? The body is contoured all the way around and the firewall budges out quite a bit so I'm sure there is some trickery on getting the body over all that. Nice Car!

It is one coat of Tamiya primer (spray can), 3 or 4 coats of the pearl acrylic right out of the bottle, and 2 coats of the Aztec clear gloss. No polishing. The Testors was sprayed out of my Iwata airbrush, light sanding with #3000 between coats. Contrary to the instructions, I glued the rear tail light panel on to the body first so I could paint it as a unit. I was able to fish the tub and chassis into place. I would have liked to slide the chassis forward about 1/16" but it was hitting the interior tub that I had already glued in, so test fit everything carefully! Edited April 5, 2018 by NOBLNG
