daddyrabbit1954 Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 First built this model more than 50 years ago. Built it again for nostalgia's sake and kept it as close as I could to my original build back then.
Renegade Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 One of my favorite cars and you did a great job on it.
daddyrabbit1954 Posted May 28, 2018 Author Posted May 28, 2018 (edited) In our local newspaper in 1967, I read an advertisement that Sears would hold a model car contest and would award the winner a trophy and gift certificate. There were two divisions, one junior division for under 14, and a senior division for those over 14. I entered the junior division (I was 13 at that time) and won 1st place that year. The next two years, I entered the same model in the senior division and took 1st place again both times. Afterward, I kept the model in a shoe box on the top shelf of the closet in my bedroom. While I was away in the USMC, my young cousins visited, found the model and destroyed it. Ever since that time, I intended to build this model again. It took more than 50 years, but here it is. This is why the model as it was built has some sentimental value to me beyond any aesthetic value. Edited May 28, 2018 by daddyrabbit1954
gtx6970 Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Nice, No drag car model collection is complete without a SWC willys. I built this same kit back in the day and have another one to build one for modern times, someday .
Greg Myers Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 Thanks Craig, just goes to show some of those old kits build up rather nicely right out of the box.
