PowerPlant Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Found dead from an apparent suicide by hanging in his hotel room in Strasbourg, France... Way too many depression related celebrity suicides lately, and mostly people whose work I like Bourdain was about the only celebrity chef I ever paid any attention to...
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I really loved the guy too! He was very matter of fact, cranky & funny. But he had a lot of ghosts. Still, I would never have imagined that he would take his own life. I would have guessed that possibly one of his many past addictions would have caught up with him. Steve
Pete J. Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Loved his show. Very much a travel log as much as a cooking show. He showed how to get into the local culture. I must say with hind sight the last few showed kind of had the feel of a farewell tour. Good friends on one last road trip. Sad he is gone. The world is a little darker without him.
Rob Hall Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Sad...loved his shows...the combination of travel + food really was appealing.
1972coronet Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 He was also a huge fan of Punk , at one point stating that The Stooges Fun House (1970) was his favourite album .
Jim N Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I never really cared for Bourdain. To me, he came across as pompous and too cranky. Having written this, I was sad hearing of his passing. It seems to be part of the human condition that we have our demons and our minds can wander off to some really dark places, but when it leads to someone taking his or her own life, it is really heartbreaking.
