For anyone looking for cheap wire, I found $1 packs of red, black, and silver wire at Dollar Tree and also found tiny spools of different colored wire at Hobby Lobby for $10 ($6 with coupon).

Michaels, Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby... all of them have a variety of items that can be used for the hobby. I needed a glass surface for trimming pieces of masking tape so I bought a $3.99 frame at Michaels, used a 40% off coupon, tossed everything but the glass, and it cost me $2.40. That 40% off coupon is the best.

Another store to consider is JoAnns. They are mainly a fabric store, but they also have a large Jewelry section with lots of goodies and small tools that you can use.
