SfanGoch Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Eugene Pitt, founder and lead singer of the Doo Wop/Soul group, The Jive Five, passed away ealy Friday at the age of 80. Eugene was, like me, a Greenpoint guy, growing up in the Cooper Houses on Kingsland Avenue. A great artist and an even greater person. Another addition to the All Star vocal group singing on the corner in Heaven.
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Man, I haven't heard that in a long, long time. Funny how we forget now much we liked some things until they're gone.
espo Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Boy do I remember Slow Dancing to some of their music. What a concept, Lyrics that you can understand and relate to with beautiful music to listen to. RIP.
SfanGoch Posted July 1, 2018 Author Posted July 1, 2018 Back in the '50s here in NYC, slow songs suitable for "grind" dancing were called "fish music".
