I found this on flea bay for under $20.  They are out there and for the price I took a shot.  I had the same questions you all have, just stupid enough to part with $20 to satisfy my curiosity!!  The packer body is quite good once you remove the add-on custom stuff.  I still have rear fenders to fab and some details like steps and lights (minimal considering the date).

Made up some rear fenders last night, wrapped a piece of flat stock around a socket, secured with tie-wraps and let it cook in some hot water followed by a cold bath to set the shape.

One option to keep an eye on when various kits don't have the right wheels/tires is the growing number of diecast collectibles out there, especially when some can be gotten for cheap or for parts. Here's one example.

Excellent point Russell. We are seeing a lot of new stuff in diecast that can be utilized in our plastic builds, mostly what were getting in plastic is old reissues..

They can be found out there yet but with the Tom Daniels show rod series in limbo for any future releases

IMO, the  Monogram  garbage truck and school bus models would be a lot more valuable, then and today, if the were done in correct scale.
