ewetwo Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 I just finished this 1953 Corvette. It was partially build. Got it apart. Painted and rebuilt it. This kit wasn't the best. I don't know if it was because it was started and then I took it apart. Or just not formed right. If I assembled it without altering the suspension. The wheels would have made it sit unusually high in the front. and the back wheel pushed way back. I shortened the rear leaf springs so I could adjust that. Then the front spindles had to be drilled lower and a piece of metal axel inserted to reattach the front wheels. My drilling skills are a bit off as your can tell by the one front tire. But heck. It's done. I'm happy with it. I had a few other pictures but for some reason they wouldn't load to the website. Don't know why as I took them all at the same time.
olschoolkid Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 It looks like you didn't do too bad of a job. Nice build for a partially built kit.
espo Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Looks very nice considering what you had to work with. I like the different color you used. The kits of that era all seemed to set to high and the tires provided would be shared with all of the other kits the company offered. The result was often a tire that was to larger for say a Corvette and the wheel backs are often the first place to start to correct those problems.

I had to shorten the rear springs to bring the rear wheels forward. And the tires with the kit didn't fit either. They were skinnier. So the hubcaps and wheel backs stuck out. So I got some wider ones. As I said. It was a started kit so those might not have been the correct tires. As for the color. I wanted something that fit the era other than white or black. :-)
Snake45 Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Very cool! Nice to see a '53 in some color other than white, and this shade would seem to fit into the '50s perfectly. Model on!
ewetwo Posted September 4, 2018 Author Posted September 4, 2018 Thank you Chris and Snake. I appreciate the comments of everyone.
