berr13 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Can anyone suggest a source for narrow white sidewall tires, other than the Amt parts pack? I'm looking for something similar to the old American Satco Firestone Deluxe tires. They have a wider width that looks better, to me, than the AMT tires. Thanks
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Yes. You can order the same white walls available in some of the Moebius kits from many hobby suppliers like Model Roundup. Steve
berr13 Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 Thanks, Steve. I've now got a set on order and on the way. I'll give 'em a try. Thanks again! Jim
bill lanfear Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 If those don't work for you, you can make your own. Go buy some sticky blank postal labels and a compass cutting tool. and with a little practice your on your way. I made these from said materials. I weathered mine so they are "dirty white" but you see it can work quite well.
El Roberto Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 OK...where did you get the compass cutting tool? I reallllly need one.
bill lanfear Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Amazon sells them for around $15. The name brand of mine is OLFA. It comes with a few replacement blades as well.
berr13 Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 Interesting! I really like what you did...any long term adhesion problems? Another idea to investigate. Thanks!

Thanks! I suppose given that they are essentially "stickers" there may be some problems for long term (years). If anyone runs into this problem, they can still glue them or use thin plastic in place of the paper labels then glue. The labels I used were pretty sticky and stayed put while rubbing them pretty hard for the weathering effect. I am confident they will last quite a while before possibly losing any stickiness.
ewetwo Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Do you think you could coat them with the Pledge polish or something similar.
berr13 Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 That's really ingenious, Bill. I've got to try that. I wonder if a coat of dull coat spray would work, too. Great idea!
bill lanfear Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Thanks James, I wish I could take credit for the idea but I saw it somewhere on youtube, tried it myself and I am sold. I think dull coat might be the way to go. My only concern would be how it ages on the tires (flaking). I will definitely use this technique again.
