Guest Gramps-xrds Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Being the good neighbor and friend that I am brought some unexpected rewards today. I've been doing some repairs for my neighbor for the last yr or so and today I replaced a receptacle in their bathroom that was bad. A while ago he knocked on the door w/ 2 boxe of old models his son had yrs ago. Most were built but some weren't. I think most can be salvaged but require some paint stripping. I thought it was nice of them to dig these out for me. The 1/32 cars will be fixed for my grandson. Looks like I'm gonna be busy for a while.
ricky12 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 i think you got a pretty good pay day there were several good looking prodjects
Clay Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I'd like to take those monster trucks and the 34 ford pickups off your hands

62SS Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Great score Gramps. I cant wait to see some of them re- built. Looks like fun. Keep us posted. Ed
novadose71 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I would have installed the receptacle for the GT-40 alone, ain't neighbors great?
locoengr Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 THAT'S where my models went to!!!! Can I have them all back?! Nice score!!!
MrObsessive Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I see what looks like a '62 Ford Boxtopper sans the hood which is a definite keeper! Those are as rare as hens teeth...........
James Flowers Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Your a lucky guy. I see at least five I would love to Have. The 60's pickup and 62 Ford would more than cover the price of labor for the receptacle you installed. I would have too think twice about hiring you HA,HA .
Guest zebm1 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 (edited) Yeah buddy, real EXPENSIVE Electrician.....awk! BTW Gramps, did you tell them how much those models are worth? Edited August 10, 2008 by zebm1
Mike Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 That F1 team and GT40 are worth it alone IMHO. Cool and good for you!
CB Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Holy McMoly Gramps!! either yer gettin mo lazeier buildin dioramamamas, or this am a real cowinkadince!! Looks jest like a junkemyard in mines necka da woods likem ya said, you gonna be busy
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Well I spent just about all afternoon and evening tryin to get everything apart. There was only 3 that weren't built (The big foot,The plated duesy and an airplane ) The rest were total glue bombs. And he used lots of it The good thing was, I think he used Lee Page glue on most of them. Even though it messed up the surface of the plastic some, most of it just pulled off. A lot of the stuff I consider just junk, but there's about 5 or 6 (not counting the 40 delivery, the 34 truck and all the Aurora T parts ) that are keepers. So I spent most of the night stripping everything w/ water diluted acetone. Luckily a few were screw bottoms. I got a good 62 galaxy 500 (minus a hood) a 61 rancharo, a 62 ford pickup, a 63 nova altered wheelbase, and a 68 falcon. Also as an unexpected bonus I found an little old DC motor in the bottom of the box.Why is this a bonus, It has .011 wire wound on it and that's the right size for plug wires. There's prob 18 ft of wire on it. Clay, you'd prob have ta fight the grandsons for the monster trucks. If they don't want them, their up for grabs. I'll keep the 34 stakebed Bill is right about the 62 galaxy being hard to find. I'd have been happy just to get it alone. It's in really good shape after stripping. now I gotta find or fabricate a hood. The F-1 and ford GT40 are total disasters, not worth saving. Haven't really looked at the bronco/ boat kit yet. It's built but didn't look too bad. I could always save and convert the trailer for cars. Well it's back to work for now.
MrObsessive Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Gramps, when all else fails for that part you need..........there's always The Modelhaus.
Rob Hall Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Gramps, when all else fails for that part you need..........there's always The Modelhaus. Yep, they definitely have the '62 Galaxie hood...I picked up a couple hoods and chrome (bumpers, etc) for my rough '62s...I've got 2 convertibles and 1 ht in my stash. I want to get the MCW resin '62 Galaxie 2dr sedan also.
george 53 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 See that Bill? What goes around, comes around! You done good for a fren, an he done good by you. I think thats pretty fair, don't you? Now, are you SURE you don't want me an the ######'n ta come over an dust off the rest of them models for ya? We'll even do it for FREE like outa tha goodness of our hearts, won't we ######'n. Now if YOU wanna show your gratitude by SHAREIN some of your haul with us, now THAT would be TOTALLY up to you .(hint hint)
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 George, that's just too funny for words. (like I'd trust you two near my models lol) OOPs did I say that or was I just thinkin it. Hmm too much acetone in my head. I decided to try and make a hood for the 62 galaxy since I didn't find anything in the junk box that'd work. But I did find a 61 hood and grill for the 62 truck. It'd be an easy conversion. Just remove the side chrome and the center of the 62 grill and insert the 61 but that's another project.

Hey george mind if i join you and the crapn I'll bring the dusters Hey gramps again nice score. Hey if you want/need maybe some kustom parts, my friend has a partial chrome tree. Dont know if he would part with it but i would ask him. I wanted to buy it off him and he told me he would keep it but he did give me the kustom grill insert . Nice score. Always loved those origional amt trucks and caminos. So far i myself have the 60 el camino in great condition bought for 20 bucks and a 60 chevy truck which was a present and its currently in restoration. I would love to see what the truck would look like with sombrero hubcaps on and whitewalls and a candy green finish
