I was just over at HobbyLinc ordering the Italeri (ex-ESCI) Police Range Rover, which is finally out.

Noticed these other kits on sale, and thought some in here might be interested.  Usual disclaimer: I have no connection with HobbyLinc, other than spending too much money with them.

The link below goes directly to the Torino:

Revell '70 Ford Torino $13.29
Revell '66 Chevy Suburban $16.33
Revell Foose 64 Chevy Impala $15.11
Round2/AMT Opel GT "Art Box Series" $14.17

I just bought a 70 Torino at HobbyTown USA for $21.95. Probably about the same with shipping.

Probably so. But my last HobbyLinc order was 5 kits, a book and a can of Testors spray paint.  I used the cheapest shipping option, and it was only $8.81 to ship all that.

The bigger problem is: many of us don't live near a HobbyTown or any other hobby shop, so we don't have that option.  Whenever I post these heads-up messages, someone usually says they can get the same kit cheaper elsewhere.  Out here in the boondocks, there is no "elsewhere."  We have to shop on-line for most stuff.

So I just wanted to let people know these kits were available at fairly reasonable prices.  You'd better hurry - HobbyLinc prices often change quick, and these may be back up to a higher price soon.  That's just the way they operate - discounted today, full price tomorrow.  I chased one military kit for months; HobbyLinc kept cutting the price, then bumping it back up.  I finally found it on deep discount from one of their on-line competitors.

And Casey, thanks for the tip on the Royal Rail. But I can't think of a single useful part from that kit. Maybe the front wheels, or that spiffy Maltese cross on top of the crown for a surf buggy.  That kit would be a Nostalgia Build for me...meaning, I would glue it together unpainted, then blow it up with a firecracker. ;-)

I was just making a comment. I was not suggesting that anyone should opt to buy a kit from anywhere other than HobbyLink. JUST A COMMENT!

P.S. It's a 100 mile round trip to H.T.USA for me, I just happened to be there.

Sorry, I certainly didn't mean to offend you.

Looking at the pictures, this appears to be the revised Revell 1970 Torino GT kit released a couple of years back.

While not mentioned in either of the model car magazine reviews of this updated kit, this issue included a highly important revision to the body casting that corrected the incorrect lower rear quarter panels in the original kit.  It also included corrected front bucket seats.

This was always a good kit, and with the corrections that much better yet.  A great buy at that price above.... TIM

I've snagged a couple of those Torino kits, even a started one or two, when I saw them cheap, for the 429 engine.  It's the only one out there; other kits claiming to have it only have warmed-over FE-series engines.  Unless you specifically need the corrected body and bucket seats, the early issue kits are as good as the corrected ones for these parts.  The GT kits have some optional engine parts: headers, Ford Motorsport valve covers and air cleaner.  The underbody slips under the MPC '70-'71 Cyclone: annual kits, resin copies, or the reissued stock car body.  You'd have to track down interior parts, bumpers, and a hood for the latter to build a showroom stock version, but I've seen one done.  There are lots of other good parts too: separate door handles, 9" rear axle, and other stuff.

Is the first release from the Pro-Modeler series???? It's been awhile since I looked at mine.... One thing I did notice was shaker scoop CJ hood was a little sloppy fitting on the body.... ?

What Mark said.....really good points all, and even more-so about being the only accurate kit source of a Ford 385 series (429/460) engine.    TIM

The 1969 Dodge Daytona and 1958 Corvette were the first two Pro-Modeler series kit of automotive subjects.  The Torino GT followed a couple of years later IIRC.

I just clicked through your link and the price I'm seeing is $16.92. Am I missing something?

No, you're right. I just clicked and now the Torino kit is $16.92.  As I mentioned above, HobbyLinc is like that.  Sometimes they change their prices very quickly, which I find annoying.  A few times I've seen good deals, went back later and the price had increased.  I guess they do that to encourage us to buy stuff right now and not wait.
