62SS Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 (edited) This is an old E-Bay glue bomb that I rescued. It was pretty much complete but poorly built. I took it apart, stripped and repainted it, Added flocking and BMF. Its not perfect, but I think it turned out pretty good. I think its a neat little car. Hope you like it. Comments welcome. george 53 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 EXCELLENT save, Ed. Ain't it a good feelin when your done, an you can see how you were able to bring bring a dead model back from the dead? You did a GREAT job on this one, an it looks good to me!
Raul_Perez Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Nice save, Ed!! Nice job on the BMF!! With the monochromatic look of the new cars, it's easy to forget just how much chrome, stainless steel and aluminum trim the old cars carried around. Later,
Harry P. Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Wagons are the hot up-and-coming collectible, now that all the muscle cars have been snapped up. If you can, check out the September 2008 issue of Hemming's Classic Car magazine. The monthly feature is wagons...lots of photos and good ideas for model subjects.
3men2s Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 DID YOU USE A TIME MACHINE? IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS DONE 50 YEARS AGO, AND AS SOON AS IT WAS DONE YOU BROUGHT IT TO THE 21 CENTURY..... TIMELESS!!!
cotto Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I do like all that oddball stuff myself man, great job on this.
Jello Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Wagons rule! You did the Olds proud! I always loved those Johan kits and yours is very impressive & great job. ~ Jeff
Eshaver Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Ed, If I can add one small detail you can do this ,even on a finished job too. The compact wagons from G M all had " Small" windows on their lift gates. Uh in scale it would be about a quarter inch from the edge on either side. I never saw this in the A M T Buick Special Wagon kits either. Still, if you want to add this detail it would " Correct " a glaring detail the manufacturers overlooked on the models . I like the build though, very nice! Ed Shaver
RodBurNeR Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 yes wagon's are cool! yours looks great, nice work on that chassis....anyone who has had one of these knows the ambition level of painting all that lol
62SS Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Thanks for the kind words guys. Glad you liked it. Eshaver, Not sure what you mean? Do you mean like a divider on each side of the rear window that is stationary when the center window is rolled down? Ed
Randy Kern Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Ed, that wagon came out beautiful. I've loved station wagons from when our family had a new '59 Chevy wagon. As far as the little wing windows, this '63 shows them. http://www.stationwagon.com/gallery/pictur...s_F-85_back.jpg
Daniel Peterson Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Ed, that wagon came out beautiful. I've loved station wagons from when our family had a new '59 Chevy wagon. As far as the little wing windows, this '63 shows them. http://www.stationwagon.com/gallery/pictur...s_F-85_back.jpg I'm guessing that was a concession to allow the rear window to travel up and down. The tail gate is relatively short, and a full size window probably wouldn't have been able to articulate fully if it's shape matched the opening. Am I close?
62SS Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Thanks for the info guys. I can fix that pretty easily. Ed
Harold Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Great job on the Y- body. I saw a couple at the 100th Anniversary GM bash last month, and fell in love with a '62 Tempest sedan. You know, if GM could come up with cars that rationally sized and good looking, Toyota would be trembling. Great resurrection, BTW.
george 53 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 (edited) Man am I glad you showed that pic! I was tryin to figure out just what Ed Shaver was talkin about.I was thinkin more like little triangular shaped windows at the back of side glass. NOW I know, thanks! bsoder Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I grew up with S.wagons, and this brings back (good) memorys!..great job
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Great restoration. There's more satisfaction in restoring an old glue bomb than building a brand new kit. Now you have something to be proud of.
