Painted this one over a year ago, then put it away because I was stalled on interior color. Did bits of minor parts painting here and there and put on the decals earlier this year. Finally last week I called upon my wife to mix up a batch of the color I was after. Turns out I should have asked her a long time ago, because I think the color turned out great. I think I'm going to spray some dullcote on the seats and carpet to separate the color from the dash and console a bit and hopefully that will do the trick. Last pic is what I am aiming for.

I would never have thought of the blue interior but seeing it I think it looks perfect.

Thanks! In doing a lot of research for this build to get an idea of color combos, I noticed that pretty much the only color interior one could get with a blue Trans Am of any shade is the light blue interior in either cloth or vinyl. Most had the cloth which is darn near impossible to replicate. The only shade of blue that I saw with a different color interior was the Nocturne Blue, which looks Teal to me, and that came with the Camel interior. In trying to stick with 1:1 color variations of interiors, the light blue was really the only choice, the problem being how to color match it.

You mentioned your research and that makes me curious as to just how many Blue/Blue  Trans Ams were built. I just don't ever recall seeing any myself. They obviously were some built and it does look nice but I just don't remember ever seeing one.

There are no actual production numbers available that I could find. My research actually consisted of googling 1979 Trans Am images, then clicking on the blue subheading. About 90% of the blue T/A's shown had the lt. blue interior aside from the aforementioned Nocturne Blue/Camel combo. A couple of darker blue ones had a black interior, but I really wanted to stay away from another black interior. My thoughts on the build were to do more of a restification look, as one would do with a 1:1 car changing the body color but not going into the cost and work involved in changing interior colors, rather than a straight restoration.

I do recall seeing a few blue/blue T/A's here and there, though not really recently, and really liking the body color with the hood bird. With blue being my favorite color, I was finally able to do a model of one once the MPC kit was available with multiple color birds.

That's gonna look great.

That looks real nice. Those snowflakes look like the set I have my eye on from a seller on ebay. Hopefully soon I will be able to make the purchase, probably 2 sets since I have another of these kits, but hate the 2 wheel options. I'm also torn on window trim, whether to do the chrome, black, or none. The chrome looks really good on yours so that might be my answer.

Thanks Craig.

My wheels are actually a set of regular MPC snowflakes in some 19" sleeves. Pegasus Michelin tires.

Another odd color option on most GM cars back then was white seats with everything else in a different color. [as opposed to white interior with just different color dash and carpet.] It was available on almost everything but mostly seen on full size convertibles. Still, quite rare though.

This one's in a '75. Apparently, '77 was the last year for this option but it sure looks good.

I keep forgetting about the option of using sleeves on stock wheels to give the larger appearance.

I seem to recall a friend from high school owning some kind of Special Edition Buick from either '76 or '77 with that kind of interior option, although it has been 34 years now so the memory is a bit fuzzy. I do remember it being a real nice car with a unique interior. Looked very similar to this, even down to the color.5bf2e0b89bb15_77buick.jpg.5dd0ff07c890a26f4e2c246f2a015e8b.jpg

I had to sell off my 1 to 1 75 TA after my accident in 96 to cover some bills...like to broke my heart to...specially since the guy that hit me had no insurance and nothing to gain.  I had planed to keep her forever.  Now..I am just hoping I can find enough stuff to make a replica of her to have.
