Richard Bartrop Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 This would make an interesting model An attempt to eliminate the need for a separate tractor. More info here http://theoldmotor.com/?p=173096
blackbeard Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 that sure would be a great model subject to build
Jim B Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 That sure is something. What is it, and what was it used for? When you said "Road King", I thought you meant this:
Oldmopars Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I think you have just inspired a future build. I am thinking this concept, but with a little more art-deco feel. Like it was for a "Trucks of the Future" show back in 1952. A cross between this and the GM Futureliner.

When you said "Road King", I thought you meant this: It is called the Road King, and the idea was to make a self contained cargo hauler that didn't need a separate tractor. THe link in the first post has more info, and here's an earlier six wheel version. A little more background info http://theoldmotor.com/?p=138179 Scott, I love retrofuture design, so I'm hoping you'll go ahead with your idea. Edited December 14, 2018 by Richard Bartrop
Oldmopars Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 (edited) I have decided to go ahead with this, however I think I am going to make it Vintage/Retro Mercedes. I want to make a truck like the one in the picture you posted, with a nose that has the feel of the pictures below. It will still have 2 drive axles out back, 2 steer axles in the front and the engine will either be tucked under the middle, in the back like a GM bus, or laid flat if I can find the right Mercedes 6 Cyl. If I use a V6/V8 it will stay upright. Because I am making a Fantom truck to begin with, I could take any 6 cal (Scania, Mann, etc) and use the valve covers off the Mercedes engine and make a Fantom 6 cyl Mercedes. I want the cab to be large, to be able to have a sleeper as part of it. With as tall as it may end up being, the sleeper may go under the main cab and have a really high driving position. Or, go the other way and have the drive low, with the sleeper on top. But thinking driver high, sleeper low for now. Edited December 17, 2018 by Oldmopars

Oldmopars Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 The nice thing about this is that it is a phantom truck, none exist and so I can build it how I want and nobody can say its wrong.

That is one of the best kinds of builds. It's fun to see what the imagination can do.
