Hotrod 97 Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) I kinda let my imagination take the wheel with this one. While it may not be realistic, or practical, I still want to see what it looks like. The Fantasy Flyer is a bracket racer straight from my imagination. It is based on the AMT Chevy Nova SS Pro Stocker. We’ll start with this - these are the three major pieces that are going to get modified. I plan to cut the wheel wells off, as well as leave the hood, front quarters, and grill off. It will have the 454 “Rat” engine with Zoomie headers. stavanzer Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Sunds like a great idea, Ty. So what are the rules you have designed for this racer? I'll be waiting=to see how it looks as you get closer to completing it.
Snake45 Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Well, that's one way to dodge the bullet of trying to make those front fenders fit.
NYLIBUD Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 So the whole front end clip will be separate from the car??I built an Old Pro Nova that way.It came out pretty well.I mean most serious drag cars have a complete glass front end that they could remove to work on the engine.

I was originally going to build it completely without the front clip, but upon thinking about it I might make a lift-off front clip. If I build it with a removable hood assembly, it might not be so imaginary...
stavanzer Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 The reason I asked Ty, is that the "Fantasy Flyer" name just seems inspired to me. I'd like to build something like it as well. Maybe I'll pick up an "Old Pro" kit when they hit HL, and knock something together myself.

Hotrod 97 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 Rainy night here in Chambersburg - time to get to work on the Fantasy Flyer. I’ve been brainstorming and invisioning what I want it to look like. I’ll build it as the Pro Stocker version from the kit, with some added features and details, such as a removable front clip. The paint will be Testors 1845 Mystic Emerald with a black interior. Now onto the progress update. The wheels are assembled, slicks sanded, and wheel backs painted. Next is the engine assembly.
Hotrod 97 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 (edited) Got the engine block assembled and ready for primer. I’ll straighten out the transmission halves and plan to hand-paint some parts tomorrow. Edited December 22, 2018 by Ty Gontz Acknowledged gap in transmission
