BanD1t6 Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 I found that the price signs in most stores are made of styrene. They are huge compared to what you can usually buy. I picked up 50 from a store doing a remodel and have pieces after trimming that are 30 x 12 inch. About 3/32 thick
TarheelRick Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 I have used those quite often. Another good source is to go to your nearest sign maker. Many of them use different thicknesses of styrene and have barrels full of scrap pieces and will sell them fairly reasonable. The pieces may not be square, but are usually large enough to cut some usable pieces.
oldcarfan Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I worked at Lowe's many years ago an brought home a 2 inch this stack of those plastic signs they use on the top of the shelves to identify what is below. They were 6' by 48". I gave a lot of it away to friends and used the rest up. Now I go to Walmart or Lowe's and buy the plastic For Sale signs. The big ones are around 24x18 and perfect for most of what I do. They also have smaller ones that are thinner plastic as well and the corrugated ones work well for some things too.
bill lanfear Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I use signs as well, however, I took the time and researched plastic manufacturers around me and found a place 45 min away from me that sold me a 4ft by 8ft sheet of white 1mm thick for $17. I just rolled it up and put it in the car and have been using that sheet for over a year! They have all kinds of stuff in different thicknesses from clear, aluminum coated, corrugated, etc. My point is to look for these types of places near your residence....you never know!

I did that when I worked for a fabrication company. We would order several thicknesses and they would use a giant shear to cut them to 24x36 for us.
Belugawrx Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Those cheap corner showers come with 2 sheets 32" X 70" of .80 mm, One side gloss, Glues up great with Tamiya extra thin, or any other kind of glue.. Whenever the chance comes up, I upsell the client to tiled walls, install the base, and keep the Styrene
