Aaronw Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I was wondering is the Revell '64-65 pickup chassis would work as a more detailed chassis for the AMT '72 Chevy & GMC pickups? Is there a better solution? The '72 is a decent kit but the old promo style chassis and suspension limit the kit, just looking at a way to improve it.
ricky12 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 i havent tryed it yet i heard the chevy van chasie is a good replacement

Aaronw Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 I actually have both the truck kits mentioned. Since I'm really more interested in a 1 ton I guess I need to check on the suspension, I'm guessing it is a leaf set up so the Midnight Cowboy might be a better choice. I've got a Chevy truck book around here somewhere. I wouldn't have even though about using a van, I have a 70's Custom Chevy van but it is already fairly well along. Thanks
rollinoldskoo Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 well whatever u choose to do.... thanks for the idea

Actually a leaf spring suspension would also be correct. My 1:1 72 chevy truck has the trailing arms and one of the guys I work with, his 1:1 72 chevy truck has leaf springs. Both are stock, with no major rework done on the suspensions. I am planning on building a scale version of my truck using the kit supplied chassis after I get rid of the rest of the promo style chassis. I think the frame from the 84 gmc pickup would work if you stretch the frame. I have thought about goin that route. hope this helps.
Joe Handley Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Don't know how clost the G-Van chassis would be, the real ones are actually a variant of unibody construction. Front suspension might be close, but those were all leaf sprung from '71 or '72 all the way through '95.
