RadRidesByDan Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 This is a truck that was made 1:1 for Fred Burrows by Dave Tucci Jr from Tucci Engineering in Marcy NY and was published in the Dec 1999 issue of Popular HotRodding. The real truck is a 1939 GMC of pure artwork. During the time I and 2 friends of mine were running a model car club here in Calgary, we had decided for all members to build a 41 chevy pickup the way they wanted and then we were going to take a picture of all the builds and use that as our logo. I came up with the idea of building this truck http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/819...p/photo_15.html After having 4 members telling me it was impossible to build....I set to prove myself very right that it could be done. 8 months later with over 400 hours of scratchbuilding I showed up at the club with the truck done.....the rest was history....I got voted out of the club and sent packing thank for lookin
RodneyBad Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 ZoWeeeeeeeeeee. That is dang cool. Best inspiration is being told it couldn't be done. The bed work alone is Awesome..
James Flowers Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 That is one great copy. A little photo shop work and you could not tell it from the real one. I would bet the guy that owns the real one would love to see it. Again great work.

lizardlust Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 the rest was history....I got voted out of the club and sent packing Just reiterates the fact that no good deeds go unpunished.... An awesome replica, Dan!!! Neat that it got notice in such a mainstream venue such as PHR as well!!!
lonewolf Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Dan You build some awesome stuff man. You bring a great deal of talent to a place that's loaded with it.

3men2s Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 dude i have that magazine....and that article on your truck got me back building models, thankzzzzzzzzzz......... your costom style is unique.
3men2s Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 why did you get kick out, i don't understand??? the club should be proud to have someone so talented anyway it is so bad when personality problems takes away from this wonderfull hobby.
Peter Lombardo Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 (edited) Great job!!! A few years ago, I built my version of the “Grasshopperâ€. 90% of my build was a copy of that truck, but I made a few changes to reflect some personal modifications to the design. I liked the Prowler dash and lights, so I carried the theme to include the grill, engine and drive train and then added some racing Porsche wheels. Your build is faithful to the original…very well done. Interestingly, I challenged myself to build this truck as there were so many modifications to complete, not having a club to push me into the build. I knew it would be a tough build, as I am sure you knew with your beautiful replica. Nice work. indexCACT0XMR.htm Edited September 5, 2008 by Peter Lombardo
Harry P. Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 dude i have that magazine....and that article on your truck got me back building models, thankzzzzzzzzzz......... your costom style is unique. I think you missed the point. He didn't design the truck... his model is a copy of the real truck that was featured in the magazine. Not his design... but still, very impressive modeling work.

Harry P. Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Harry get out yer specks....the article IS about the model!!!! From the initial post: "This is a truck that was made 1:1 for Fred Burrows by Dave Tucci Jr from Tucci Engineering in Marcy NY and was published in the Dec 1999 issue of Popular HotRodding. The real truck is a 1939 GMC of pure artwork." The model is not an original design, it's a copy of the real truck... which is what I said.
RadRidesByDan Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 why did you get kick out, i don't understand??? the club should be proud to have someone so talented anyway it is so bad when personality problems takes away from this wonderfull hobby. After I showed up with the truck...they started to bug me to send pics to PHR but I wouldnt....after 4 months of being bugged i sent PHR an email to Cameron Evans whom at the time was the chief editor. He emailed back saying that he wanted a full roll of film so that he can pick the pictures that he wanted and publish at article on the model truck. After contacting Dave Tucci Jr and got the ok to run the article....Cameron emailed me back to let me know that they were givin the OK to run it. When the club found out that it was going to be published....a few told me that PHR would deal with small time guys like me. WELL!!!!!!!! 8 months later there it was in PHR magazine....and then there it was...the vote was to boot me to the curb. I really dont know what the real answer is to that question but my opinion says its either they got proven wrong or plain jealousy Either way its was thier loss. Bear

Not his design... but still, very impressive modeling work. i DID NOT MISSED anything BRO!!!! the way he builds models, MAN!!!! to get the same look as the real one you need to have skills and he has them you need to know what you are doing. and that's what I mean by the way he custom the model not the real car.....I also was talking about all his builTs in general all of them have his signature on them....when you take a kit and you built it your way and not box stock, for me it is custom. and yes it is amazing Edited September 8, 2008 by 3men2s
