2 things to pay attn to while making the cyl head.  The angle for the cam boxes - should be 60 degrees - and I drilled thru the head for the openings for the coolant tubes - so that I’ve got a pattern to use when I solder up the radiator manifold ...

On the right side of the cyl head I’ll make the combustion ports .   This engine used Amal single throat carbs in an arrangement very similar to its Norton ancestor ...  I mite cheat and use some kit sourced exhaust pipes from Fernando Pinto’s very good Vanwall kit.  Not Sure - maybe ...

Maybe not ....   when Doug Nye did his great History of the Post War Grand Prix car Vol I - about 35 years ago - it included the factory drawings for the Vanwall space frame.   Thank you Mr Nye!
The current plan is to build  a display chassis - as photographed  / featured in the book’s chapter on the marque -  actually I think that undressed chassis was once on display at the Collier Museum - now known as Rev’s -  years ago -

I was unable to photograph it then as the museum has always had strict photograph rules - no flash - not a problem today - with I phones - but back then - it was the “””one that got away “”.  Anyway - this mite be the chassis for the Rev’s Collection Vanwall .  Vanwall only built 5 or 6 ....
       - there is so much on these cars that I can do a nice job with what I’ve got - but boy would I have loved to have shot a roll of film on that chassis ...   oh well ...  and the Merit Vanwall kit may make a cameo in this project anyway ...

The other side of the cyl head gets angled holes for the carbs...  the Amal carb bodies are soldered up from 1/16 thin tube and some .078 tubing scrounged from the back of one of my STUFF drawers ...  Next is some work on the cam housings ...

The carbs will get some aluminum caps and horns. ...  time to clean up the Sherline workbench ...  maybe I’ll post a photo before the cleanup. Just for laughs ...  the cyl head has plug holes drilled at angles - this was a duel plug / cylinder engine - the distributor sits in front of the engine - below the fuel pump and above the water pump ...

The camshaft housings were made from three strips of Evergreen liquid glued together to get the profile / Shape correct ... then added some .025 plastic pegs so I’ll get a solid attachment to the cyl head once the parts are painted ...

Pleasant surprise in today’s mail ...    Veloce’s Ford Small Block source book has a reprint of the 30 page Ford Motor Company publication on the 65 Ford Indy DOHC engine  - page for page - very nice - I had pined about getting a copy of this pamphlet on this thread last year - it hasn’t been re-produced in some years - but Author Des Hammill found my cure ... book also has some good info on the hi performance engines used by Shelby ... so maybe I should complete that DOHC Indy engine ??  ???  ya think ?

Hope is eternal - the combustion engine is ...  not ....

the gear casing at the front of the engine is a one piece casting with an accessory drive bolted on its top half ...  the drawing was traced from the Roger Taylor Vanwall 3 view profile drawings - they are really good -  and they are at Least 50 years old - then ground and filed the profile on some .080 thick Evergreen  - made the accessory drive from some .030 strip - and added Details and bolt holes ...

I like the work in white styrene and the brass carbs.  Looking good!

So, if "Hope is eternal - the combustion engine is ...  not ....? You'll be wanting to build one of these next?

Yes, this was at the Peterson museum in LA.  the future of engines?  But you will need to put playing cards on the wheels to get the 'Real sound of power" affect.

the cr stands for Carsten Reide.  Who is apparently a very successful / well known ? / photographer fr Germany - I think -  anyway his Motorsport photography includes a wonderful tour of the Donington Museum (RIP) - and somE great photo collections from his visits to Goodwood etc. with some great engine porn - no free downloads but if you own an I phone - you know what to do -

Should probably do some more work on the Vanwall engine - but I’ve got Ferraris on my brain …

maybe I should just lie down to see if this passes …

2 cars but same engine ...

this is an early Columbo V12

the photo in the sports car eng bay is from the Spa winning Ferrari Barchetta that I am building in the Other Racing WIP section - an Umi kit that I am building as a tribute to the late Mike Quarterman

- he produced this kit in 1993 ...

the other photo is of the Collier family owned 166 that is displayed at the Rev's Museum in Naples

this photo was taken at an Amelia event a few years ago ...  It is one of the first Ferraris - and was built about a year before the Barchetta.

this is a shot of the engine published by Sports Car Digest - with - or without  - there permission - but with a plug - great site ...

this is the display engine in the Jon Shirley Collection  - that family is the lucky owners of the Spa Winning Barchetta that I will build from the Umi kit ...

the kit includes a fairly detailed engine bay, but ...
