Mr mopar Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) I have some question about this car . what size rear tires were used and how wide were they ? I'm get parts up to make this car . Edited June 12, 2019 by Mr mopar
espo Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 If someone is unable to supply you with proof positive on the tire size info, try looking maybe on the NHRA site and see if you can find the rule book for '69. In the rule book it should show the allowable tires sizes depending on what class the car was running.

He mentions Pro Stock in the thread title. Pro Stock didn't come along until 1970. I don't have my rulebooks handy, but I think early Pro Stock rules allowed whatever size slicks you could cram into the wells. And it looks like that's pretty much what Grumpy has done in the above pic.

I don't recall the exact time frame that the NHRA was using these different designations, but my thought was that Mr.Mopar would be able to find the information on their web site.

I don't recall the exact time frame that the NHRA was using these different designations Factory Experimental, Modified Production, and Pro Stock are three different things, though somewhat related. Pro Stock was sort of descended from FX and MP, but the FX class was gone by the time Pro Stock appeared (1970). As I recall, Jenkins used Grumpy's Toy IV (the '68) for the first part of the inaugural 1970 season, and at some point transitioned into GT VI (the '69) for the rest of the season and maybe on into 1971 as he got GT VIII (the '70 1/2) sorted out. As I said, I don't have my books on hand at the moment.
Force Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) I have seen pictures of Grumpy's 68, 69 and 70½ Camaros with Pro designation with numbers 100, 101 and 777. Many of the cars in the first couple of years in the new Pro Stock class was basically Super Stock cars with more liberal engine rules, so they were not much different from a Super Stock except for the engine. Slicks size around 10½-11½ inches wide. Edited June 12, 2019 by Force
Deuces Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 Try the rear tires from the Carl Casper Shaker Trike kit... The wheels are deep dish S/S Cragars... The box sez 1/25 scale which was a missprint... It's actually 1/12 scale... The kit is from amt or mpc...
Deuces Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) Here's a pic of the tires and wheels... The tires are like the hollow Goodyear slicks in the amt kits... Only way bigger!!! I tried one on the monogram Camaro rear wheel well, and it looks great! Can't wait to build my version of da grump's toy... ?? Edited June 15, 2019 by Deuces
