Mike Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 (edited) Just wrapped this one up. FANTASTIC kit on a whole. I highly recommend getting a Tamiya motorcycle kit if you haven't. The whole reason for building it? I LOVE THE PAINT SCHEME!!! Tomorrow I'm going to Michael's to pick up a plaque and design a base for it. Edited September 14, 2008 by Mike
gary westervelt Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Awesome build Mike.Looks like decal hell to me tho I was just telling a buddy of mine today about your build. He's got a tamiya bike as well he's getting ready to start.
crispy Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Nice looking bike Mike! Great job with the decals too! I have the Ducati Desmosedici and it looks intimidating just sitting in the box. However, one day I will brave it. Again, great build. Chris
lizardlust Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Looks like decal hell to me tho DITTO on that statement!!! You did a masterful job on applying them, though, and your finished piece looks to be of box art model caliber - SAWEEET!!!
Willy Survive Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Mike thanks for the inspiration to pull this one off the shelf and start tinkering with it. Unbelievable work on this one. Decals are superb and the kit as a whole looks pretty flawless to me. Be for-warned I may shoot you a pm if I run into any snags on my build. Great job buddy. -Will

crispy Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Mike, that is killer! Killer base for a killer bike! Great builds on both! LOL Chris
RodneyBad Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I'd shy away just for the decals. Excellent job on the bike and Base. How did ya do the base?
coopdad Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) Wonderful work on the bike. I have never really liked bikes but after seeing my first race this weekend (Indy's GP race) I now have a great interest in trying one. One question, how old was Rossi in 2003? He looks like his is 10 years old today... that would put him 5 back then John Edited September 16, 2008 by coopdad
RadRidesByDan Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 hey Mike, My jaw hit the floor when I saw that bike.....My hat is off to ya. I have seen many nice bikes built and yours is at the top of my list with the best of them. Your paint and decal work on this build is like the Monalisa of art work. Extremely well done. Bear
Mike Posted September 18, 2008 Author Posted September 18, 2008 Thank you for the very kind words guys. Coop - if you haven't built one of these Tamiya bikes, you must. They go together so effortlessly and the fit is so great.... well, I'd be broke right now from buying bike kits if I wasn't smart enough to know better! Zukiholic - The base was rather simple. I bought an 8" round wood plaque/base etc. at Michaels, painted it the same color blue as the bike, then I found some of Rossi's artwork on his home-page, blew it up to fit the plaque, printed on photo paper for the nice finish and white-glue to hold it down.
Merkur XR4Ti Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Mike, that is fantastic work! I love those Tamiya Moto GP Kits; they are a blast to build and fall together so well. I have that one you just finished in the box, waiting for me to get to it. I've built 3 of those kits so far.
diymirage Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 that is an awesome looking bike bro, nice job Wonderful work on the bike. I have never really liked bikes but after seeing my first race this weekend (Indy's GP race) I now have a great interest in trying one. One question, how old was Rossi in 2003? He looks like his is 10 years old today... that would put him 5 back then John that is exactly the secret to his succes, he isnt an over average driver, he is 15 years younger and subseqentially 85 pounds lighter then his opponents and 85 pounds make a heck of a lot of difference on a 320 pound machine
Randy Kern Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Mike, that looks killer! That is one wild paint scheme on there. After getting hooked on the Tamiya car kits, I picked up an old bike kit that my local Hobbytown had on sale for eight bucks. I couldn't resist it at that price, and it's a Ducati, the Mike Hailwood Replica 900. For a 25 year old kit, it too has great detail! I might have to get a more current one, though
