I've seen some stuff on YouTube that has me wanting to try Testors Aztec acrylic airbrush paints, particularly their opaque red.

Following the example of the Ferrari kit builders, I'd like to use Tamiya's pink primer lacquer under red paint, which is supposed to give it more "pop".  From what I've read, the majority of them use lacquer or enamels.  Will my use of acrylic over lacquer lead to compatibility issues?  Anybody done this?

I doubt that you will have any issues doing it this way.

Issues usually arise when paints that are too hot are sprayed over paints that are not designed to handle it.

Tamiya primer is designed to be used under lacquer paint.

Testors Aztec acrylics are basically colored water.

There should be no problem going over a primer that can withstand lacquer.

Save yourself the time of getting the pink primer if you don't already have it. I tried Tamiya TS-49 over both their white and pink primer and it made no difference in appearance at all! I then tried their clear red over the pink primer and it came out just like TS-49.
