TarheelRick Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Did full-size Pontiacs ever use the GM "X" frame, or have they always run perimeter frames?
Can-Con Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) The Canadian ones did as they used Chevy frames and engines but normal US made Pontiac only used them for a couple years. Edited August 12, 2019 by Can-Con
TarheelRick Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 Thanks for that chart. I guess that means I can use a '58 Chevy frame under my '58 Bonneville promo/friction car.

But a 59, 60, 61, 62, 63 or 64 frame (Revell for all but the 61, AMT for 62 (newest tool) and AMT/Lindberg for 61). There is also the 59 El Camino. For sure a 59/60 would work being close in age if you don't have a 58. Wheelbase would be a determinant. The Revell 59 Cadillac would have a longer wheelbase version. I suspect some work would need to be done for gas tank/tire well in some cases.
TarheelRick Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 I have the Revell '58 Chevrolet that I picked up at a swap meet in a zip-lock bag. It is missing some parts, but I believe the chassis is still complete. As far as detail, anything is better than the steel plate and four toy like tires. Wheelbase may be a concern, but that will be addressed when I get it on the bench.
