Ironman63 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 I just ran across this: https://www.foxnews.com/auto/dale-earnhardt-jr-tennessee-plane-crash-nascar I hope all the best for everyone involved.
dwc43 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 IT was no big deal, really. Blew a right rear tire and the wing hit the ground. Both pilots, the dog, and the wife, kid, and jr. WALKED away from the plane, did not even run away from it. Then later it caught fire and burned down. No one hurt from what I could see from the video.
Mikey56 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 any plane crash is a big deal...maybe in the sense that they all exited the plane and are ok....but no plane crash is a good one....witnessed crashes, searched for downed aircraft, seen the aftermath....none of it's good...thankful the family and pilots are ok.
MrObsessive Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Yes. As someone who had a family member's house TOTALLY DESTROYED when a plane hit their home ANY plane crash is a big deal. In Dale Jr's case no one was hurt which is good, but psychologically it can be a quite distressing for anyone involved. In my case I wish it was just mental damage that occurred when the plane hit my Uncle's house many years ago. In fact, my Aunt happened to be in the house when it hit, so not only was she killed, but everyone on the plane was as well. It's one of those things that one never forgets.
Mikey56 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 absolutely! you never forget....a friend happened to be a med-tech (Air Force) and responded to a C-130 crash that took the lives of 18 (if I remember correctly) airman in Georgia....he and I are close friends and he still has bad dreams of walking around the crash site identifying bits and pieces....20 years in the Air Force and I hate, simply hate, flying....and it is one of those things that you NEVER forget....
Ironman63 Posted August 16, 2019 Author Posted August 16, 2019 Bill, sorry to hear about your aunt. I don't know if I would have the intestinal fortitude to climb back on a plane after as close a call as this seems to be. I think I'd buy a bus like John Madden did. Alan Kulwicki was flying to Bristol also when his plane crashed and all on board were lost in 1993.
Mikey56 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 you and me both ironman63! I've flown all over the world when I was active duty in the Air Force (Security Police), and I hate every minute of it...if I can't drive there, I ain't going!

I agree with that. A plane with sky divers crashed on an island in the river that goes through our town about 2-3 miles from where I live just a month ago and all 9 aboard lost their life, 1 pilot and 8 sky divers, a couple of my friends have summer houses about 200 yards from the crash site and was there when it happened. It looks like Dale Jr and his family is fairly ok and that's good. Edited August 16, 2019 by Force
