Mr mopar Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 is the rear air ride suspension soley freightliners or is it use on other trucks ? and what is the name of it? TIA
Force Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 (edited) The suspension on the Italeri Freightliners and all other US trucks except the Peterbilts are the old Western Unit Stabilaire suspension Peterbilt used before the did their own Air Leaf, Freightliner called this suspension Airliner and it has been replaced with Airliner II. So yes, this suspension has been used on other trucks and if you look at the AMT Peterbilt 359 original and recently reissued California Hauler and 352 Pacemaker COE you see that they have the same suspension. Mr mopar Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 Good to know thx Force ! I'm just getting back into trucks .
Casey429 Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 I just picked up the latest issue of the Italeri FLD120 "Special" and upon opening it up, it's got the Stabilaire as Force mentioned, but it also has the correct Freightliner Airliner. The Stabilaire is marked grey on the instructions as "parts not to be used." I don't have any other previous issues to check it against, and I haven't looked online to see if that's the case there as well.
Force Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 (edited) Well I don't have that particular truck kit myself but the Italeri Freightliner FLC I have (and several of the other Italeri US truck kits) has the old Stabilaire suspension wich Freightliner called Airliner and I assumed it was the case this time too, I just checked the FLD instructions on the Modeltrucks25 Fotki album and you're absolutely right, the FLD has both the old Stabilaire/Airliner suspension and the later Airliner II suspension. Correct it was also the air ride option on the Dodge big horn although the only one built with it was the prototype big horn. Witch by the way is being restored from the ground up by a big horn collector in Georgia. It's the one seen Overdrive magazine ads.
