Well, I got a start on this one yesterday, and figured I’d post it up. I used to own one of these, but had to sell it about 9 years ago. I loved that car, so hopefully I can do it some justice. I have two of the JoHan ‘66 Fury kits (one a rebuilder), so I figured I could build one as it was when I sold it, and one as how I wanted it to be, which is what this build will be. I thought I had to work from memory, but my awesome wife searched and searched through what seemed like thousands of pictures on an external drive and found a bunch of my old car! Believe it or not, that green colour is “Citron Gold”, and is green inside as well.

It was a 383 auto, with bucket seats and console, with power steering and brakes. I grabbed then 383 auto from the ‘69 Dart GTS, the chassis from the ‘64 Dodge 330, and a bunch of random parts from various kits to gather what I need for this project. I’ll be closely copying what Steven did with his Fury (to the best of my limited skills!).

The 383 is started, I made a new breather for the drivers side valve cover, and will be making a PCV for the passenger side. I’ve got a few different Fireball carbs to choose from. I’m having a lot of fun scratching bits to get it as close to what it was as I can (trans dipstick, modifying the console from the Revell ‘68 Charger to an auto).

I do need a bit of advise on how to repair the windshield pillar. It had been broken in two spots, and a rough repair made by the previous guy. I don’t have a parts kit that has a pillar close to the same size.

Hey Trent!

Hope this build goes well for you!

As you already stated, I just finished a '65 version of this kit and had a blast doing it.

If you're planning on doing the same sort of modifications that I did, don't be afraid to ask.

I would be more than happy to help in any way that I can.

That being said, I'm not sure how I would tackle the A-pillar.

Looks like he tried to save the lower portion of the pillar that wasn't broken and tried to just glue the broken section back into place.

I would try to save that lower section as well, but you might need to replace the broken part with some styrene stock.

This is why I avoid old kits with broken pillars like the plague!

I absolutely hate trying to fix them!

Unfortunately, I don’t have a choice. These kits aren’t cheap, so I have to work with what I’ve got! The rest of the kit is unbuilt/unpainted, this is the only issue. Oh well, it’s a good opportunity to learn something.

I have used Evergreen stock to replace "A" pillars. It takes a little work, but I end up with a solid piece in place of a couple broken parts that might not be as strong as they should be.

There is a JoHan 65 Fury on eBay now with some seriously messed up pillars. Starting at $85 with no bids. I passed on it.

Trent, yours don’t seem that bad at all. I’ll be following this build along with your super bee.

Yeah, I personally wouldn't even consider paying $85.00 for ANYTHING with destroyed pillars.

I'll never get that desperate!

I'm a little sad that you didn't start this project several months ago Trent.

Some time back, I traded away a pretty nice '65 Fury hard top body to another individual.

It would have been a fairly easy operation to transplant the entire roof.

But I surely wouldn't let the damaged pillar stop me.

With a little perseverance you will prevail! :D

I got this kit fairly cheap because of the damage, I think around 45ish? I figured I’d be able to swap out the whole pillar with something. I only paid that because it’s the only Fury game in town!

Thanks the thought Steven, but back then I had my hands full with a ‘67 GTX, and a ton of repair work from rearranging the display shelves! I wouldn’t have been able to cut up a good body anyways. I’m almost coming around to looking forward to try to rebuild the pillar, I’m sure it won’t be the last broken one I’ll have to deal with, might as well learn how to fix ‘em!

Trent if you have a body with good pillars you can pull a mould off the one body using a fast setting putty. Another member showed off this technique a little while ago and it works very well

That's not a bad idea.

cast one from the good body with some 2 part epoxy if you're not set up for casting with resin.

br67, I’ll give that a try! I’ve never cast anything before, but there’s a first time for everything!

Bucky, I still have a few parts cars to check, but so far none of the parts kits are close.

A bit of engine work getting done while I wait for parts for the Super Bee to dry.

The valve covers for the 383 were just generic, and didn’t really do it for me. I cut off the breathers, and made a PCV and a much better breather/oil fill cap. The first picture is of a spare 383 I’m building for a Dart (for a comparison), the other two are the Fury’s 383.
