I am more incline to build drag cars and road racing cars

but since I came to live in the states, specially in florida

people live, drink, sleep NASCAR. and when I went to

North Carolina for vacation, forget about it, it is a religion.

anyway, I started to watch it in ESPN and by that time

this guy was the man to beat and I became a fan.

I had a slot car track with this car......later I started to

root for Mark Martin in hopes to see him detrone

Dale Earnhart.

I have slowly drifted away from watchin and rooting, I don't know

half of the drivers and since number 3 took his

last turn it felt like the last samurai had died.

Well I am trying to get back in it, I don't have a favorite

driver yet, Me and a couple of panas (puertorrican for buddies)

decided to do a NASCAR BUILD OFF and I have CHOSEN TO DO

my first NASCAR MODEL of my first favorite driver and car.

I had this model for more than 15 years in the closet and now

I have the corage to buil it. Hope I can do it rightl.

and will use this forum to educate and push my self to finish it.

I am one of the "panas" in this buildoff. I'll do my first Nascar as well.

Good start Danny, I have yet to open mine.

THE CHASSIE IS READY TO GO TO THE PAINT BOOTH, FOR A COUPLE OF COATS

OF RED!!!!

LOOKING AT THE ENGINE, THE VALVE COVERS ARE BACKWARDS.

THE INSTRUCTIONS SHOW THE AIR BREATHERS IN THE VALVE COVERS ARE

POSITION TOURS THE BACK, BUT WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT THIS REFERENCE

I SEE THE PROBLEM.

engine.jpg

THE FORD VALVE COVERS, THE FLAT PART FACES UP.

THE AIR BREATHERS WILL NOW BE IN FRONT.

DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS ACURATE FROM THE 1:1

COUNTERPART?

Alright, I was able to do something this past week.

it started to look like a race car.

Question for the NASCAR heads out there.

The OIL tank behind the driver, is that for the engine

or for the rear end, since I see that it has a pulley

driven pump conected to the drive shaft.

I am having trouble loking for referenses.

I know, you ere sopused do that first and then

start the build. I am eventually learning as I go

along.

just an idea on the roll bar padding ties, i have been using small black wire to simulate the wire ties ir Zip ties like on 1:1 cars. i wrap it around and use locking tweezers to hold and twist the wire down tight. you can actually pull it down pretty tight which may squeeze the padding some. clip off the excess and it looks like a real Zip tie.

i'm looking at giving my first Nascar kit a try too soon. i just picked up an early 80's Buick kit myself!

Dave

thank you for the tip. I got rid off those tackie white strings anyway so it looks much better.

A quick tidbit of help. Several years ago, a fellow modeler was building a petty car anyway vinny was lazy about researching and whining about color not matching. SO I dialed information, got the number petty enterprises and called.

explained to richard him self what i was doing, and in 30 mins he had a man from the paintshop call me with the paint chip code, and the color primer code, and from what vendor that year.... only 1 catch..... had to send a few pictures of the model.

Following month I gave Vinny all this info, 3 months later he won a bunch of trophies with it, and published in scale auto enthusiast, needless to say a copy of mag and several pictures went to petty

Im sure if you called for Elliott info you could get all the pictures/answers you needed. and yes Nascar is a religion, as is baseball, especailly if the Yankees are in the world series.

I know I wanted a birthday autograph for my son, of Dale Jr, called Kannoplis, and they got me to kelli his sister, and she got my son hs picture in time for his birthday.... my son and I have had issues, but that picture hangs in his bmothers house, and for just that item, I am a god, as I got him his fav driver., for everything else, i'm just his dad.

good luck, call the race teams, they help, there help makes your model more interesting and accurate as well

Dave, I love those old Buick's!!!

they just have the right "look" to them..

a word of advice, the first thing I do when I pull a Buick or any other monogram NASCAr kit out of the box is check the body and frame for warpage.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUGESTIONS, I ALREADY STARTED BUT FOR SURE

THE NEXT TIME I DO A REPLICA OF A RACE CAR I WOULD CONSIDER THAT.

THIS IS MY FIRST NASCAR AND IT IS MORE AS A TEST FOR ME THAN A

SHOW PIECE, even dow it is coming along better than I thought.

ANOTHER THING I LIKE ABOUT THIS HOBBY, IT CONECTS US WITH THEM.

MY BODY ISMAEL, HAS A SIMILAR STORY WHEN HE WAS RESEARCHING

FOR HIS C5 GTS CORVETTE PROJECT. I WILL LET HIM SHOW YOU.....

I AM TO TIRED TO SEARCH FOR IT RIGHT NOW  .

i WAS ABLE TO DO SOME MORE WORK THIS MORNING.

THE FRONT SUSPENSION IS ON. I AM ALSO TRYING TO FIX

THE 20 YEAR OLD BODY, IS SO WARP. i USE THE HEAT AND

I AM HOLDING IT DOWM IN A FLAT SURFACE TO SEE IF IT WILL

CORRECT IT SELF ENOFF THAT YOU DON'T NOTICE, IF NOT

WELL I WILL SAY IT WAS THE INTIMIDATOR WHO DID THAT

WHEN IT BUMP ME ON TURN 4 AND TOOK ME OUT ON THE LAST LAP.

I AM ALSO TRYING TO CREATE THE DUCTS, LOOKING A THE

STRAWS FROM MY DAUGHTERS JUICYJUICE BOX...

I THINK I GOT THE RIGHT SCALE FOR THIS PROJECT.

RECYCLE PEOPLE!!!!!!!

I just did the cooling hoses. I just need to paint

the fittings later metalic blue. I realize that the hose

that came with the kit is not what the referense shows.

It comes with a single upper hose coming from radiator

and splits in to two going to the heads. the photo

in the box shows two lines going to the heads and that is

what I did. pLUS one thing I notice, the kit did not

come with a bottom hose, not even it shows in the instrucions

So I did my own and connected it to the side of

the water pump.

I want to comment how much this photos in the box

help me...every manufacture should bring referense photos.

in the box art or inside.
