PatW Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 I have just watched the Nat Geo channel on Sky where they talk about draining the Bermuda Triangle. They centre on Flight 19 on the 5th December 1945 out of Fort Lauderdale and that the flight of 5 planes disappeared soon afterwards. Plus the flying boat sent to find them! I've found various pictures on the net of the flight/planes and their markings. The problem I have is, as the pictures are in black and white, what is the aircraft colourway, black, dark blue? I'm told Sea Blue Gloss although it looks to me to be either semi gloss or matte finish. The kit I have found and bought from ebay is..... Research........................................ That was a couple of weeks ago............. Now.................
bisc63 Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Nice looking build! Where did that stand come from; old Airfix?
PatW Posted October 18, 2019 Author Posted October 18, 2019 Thanks Rusty, the stand came with the kit.
Mike999 Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 Nice build, and you've probably nailed the color about as closely as possible. The paint would have started out as Dark Sea Blue Gloss but weathered quickly in the Florida climate and salty air of the south Atlantic, fading to a patchy finish like your model. From 2005-07, the NatGeo channel ran a great series called "Is It Real?" Each episode focused on one example of allegedly supernatural doings and explained it scientifically/rationally. Believers in the supernatural complained to NatGeo that the series was "too skeptical." IMO, there's no such thing as too skeptical, especially in this day and age. Here's the episode on the Bermuda Triangle.
Agent G Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 Looks great! Late 1944 to1945 and post war, saw US Navy aircraft in overall Gloss Sea Blue. The gloss finish rapidly degraded leaving a semi gloss sheen. Yours is just right and a perfect tribute. G
