So good in fact, that I don't believe I would tempt fate by trying to clear it......... With the luck you've had with this paint job, I believe I would quit while I was ahead! I hope that's an okay suggestion! I would just hate to see you have to strip it again....... Edited Monday at 03:20 PM by JollySipper 1

And yeah, was a little surprised at how well it turned out.

Fingers crossed that the clear goes well................ Well, I got the clear on and the decals on the dash and steering wheel. Now it's time for it to dry for 3-4 days before I finish the body stuff and decals! I am honestly thrilled I pulled this off with 2 light base color coats, 1 main color coat and then the final 1 coat of clear. This thing fought me, and I am liking how it's going. 2

I’m just playing - I’m FAR from experienced at this type of effect (the armor modelers are the ones who have this really nailed down) but it’s fun to play with! I got a pack of sponges-on-sticks from either Michael’s or Hobby Lobby in the kids art supplies, and just kinda picked away at the end of one until it wasn’t too uniform…I took a quick cellphone pick but my camera didn’t want to focus on the end very well: Then I just dab it in a LITTLE of the paint color that I wanted the chips to show up as (in this case, white, to make it look like the pink had worn through) and then test on a piece of paper or card until 99% of the paint has gone before applying to the model. Super fun technique! 1
meechum68 Posted Tuesday at 01:07 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:07 PM Thank you! I think the wife has some older sponges like that I maybe able to snag a few! I appreciate the tip too on how to do it!

The paint has a much more transitional effect than I thought it would. Depending on the light it goes from a blueish gold to a darker greenish gold. 1
Vessey Posted Tuesday at 08:41 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:41 PM I put some tire valves I 3D printed on the wheels of the Lexus LFA I'm working on. 2
