Oldmopars Posted February 9, 2020 Posted February 9, 2020 I am wanting to do some small scale resin casting. Like I need a spare tire for a Unimog. I also want to replicate some engine parts, etc. Basically I want to copy parts from kits that would keep me from having to buy a whole kit and waste it just to get one part, or a few parts. I am not looking to take away anything from the few wonderful resin casters that make stuff for us right now. So, I had a "Kit" that I got from Hobby Lobby and it worked good. Looking for something like that, brand names etc. Any links to silicon or the right resins on Amazon would be great. I see a lot of stuff, but most of it seems to be the wrong stuff for my use.
FordRodnKustom Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 I like the stuff found at Micro Mark. It works well for me. I am not a professional, just a modeler that sometimes casts parts for myself. https://www.micromark.com/RESIN-EXPLORATION-SET Soon the "experts" will be chiming in debunking my suggestion so make your own decision. There's a lot of resin casting supplies out there. Good luck!
porschercr Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Scott, I think Hobby Lobby would be your best bet for small scale casting..(just a few parts at a time.) https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Clay-Molding-Sculpting/Casting/Amazing-Casting-Resin-Kit/p/22272 https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Clay-Molding-Sculpting/Casting/Mold-Putty/p/22271 https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Clay-Molding-Sculpting/Casting/Mold-Putty/p/27710
peteski Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 This question pops up on the forum quite often. Last time it was just about a month ago. Lots of good info already provided in that last round of questions.
