crispy Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) Hey guys, I'm working on the Fujimi F430 Challenge car. So, I'm buzzing along and thought I would take a look at the instructions and noticed that the kit has to have the body drilled out for the racing fuel cap/quick connect, things, can't think of the name of them now. Anyway, there's nowhere on the body, inside or out, that shows me where to drill or where to place. Finding pictures of the Challenge car I am working on is a chore in and of itself. IF anyone has built one could you possibly show a picture of it and maybe let me know what you did? I have some plans lined up. Some measuring and what not should get me through, but I want to be able to see some better pictures of these on models themselves. I'll be going back to check out the pictures via google and the Challenge web site. I'm just very happy I decided to wait on painting the body. Just got he blemishes worked out, fuel door filled and one coat of primer before realizing I was going to have to drill out the body. Chris Edited October 9, 2009 by crispy
Nick F40 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) does this help? http://www.speedsportlife.com/photopost/da...llenge_02_h.jpg Edited October 13, 2008 by Nick F40
crispy Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 Thanks Nick, Not really. I do know that the fuel quick connect is around the second slot on the rear hatch. Finding bigger better pictures is the difficult part and there isn't much on that location. My Forza magazines have great pics, but nothing really close and or above views. I want to make sure I get it right the first time. Then making sure I get them to match side to side. There isn't much space in that area on the model to be screwing up, so measuring twice and drilling once is what I'll be doing. More than measuring twice too. LOL Thanks for looking. Chris
Brendan Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Google search F430 GT3. That is essentially what the Challenge car is. The fuel fillers are in the same position as the racing cars that you see in the ALMS. If you can wait till after this weekend, I'll be taking pictures at Laguna Seca and I can get some pictures of the fuel filler. Hope this helps.
crispy Posted October 14, 2008 Author Posted October 14, 2008 Brendan, That would be awesome if you could. I have plenty to do on the car. I'd ask you to get down and dirty and measure for me, but some good close pictures would be worth it. If you get time and a chance. Don't go out of your way though. Have fun! Thanks! Chris
Ariel Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 430 challenge more 439 challenge These cars have them on both sides because it depends the track that the are racing at and where the pits fall.

Ariel, Perfect! More shots than I would have imagined finding. Both links provide essential reference. I'm happy to see I have been on the right track so far. I knew that the cars utilized two fillers for that very reason. I can get to the body and hammer on now. Thank You! The only thing I didn't see in any of those pictures are the car I'm working on. Although the kit has since been discontinued. All the cars are essentially the same anyway. Again, thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated. Chris Edited October 14, 2008 by crispy
Ariel Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 most likely the car you are building is a 430 that is raced in Europe. These here are the ones raced in the US. The race along side with the rolex cars series. The #1 and #2 car that win the series here get to go to Europe to run an enduro race. Ariel
crispy Posted October 14, 2008 Author Posted October 14, 2008 (edited) Here's the best shot of the car I could find. I believe it was raced in Europe. At least from the information I could find on it. And the kit: Although the numbers are changed and some other minor details. Tough to find shots of this particular car. Bit would like to get one of those.
crispy Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 Where did you find that kit I have all the other ones. Bit would like to get one of those. Ariel, it was a short run kit and has been discontinued. I got this about a month or two ago. I went looking for another one but no luck. You can try http://www.hlj.com http://www.hwjapan.com/ http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/car/ Of course you can keep an eye out on ebay too. I'm heading to work now, but will see if I can find another one. crispy Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 I found it at 1999 Thanks Ariel SWEET! Did you order it then? LOL Glad you got one. Chris
crispy Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Ok, so you guys did a great job helping me out with the fuel filler so now my next question for you is this: What color do you suppose the Shark car is?? I've narrowed it down to these: Rosso Corsa 300 Rosso Scuderia 323 Rosso Corsa 322 I'm leaning more towards 322 as it looks right from the pictures I've been looking at, but of course this is subjective due to photo conditions. Any input? Chris
Zoom Zoom Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Any input? Just paint it red One can barely tell Ferrari reds apart, aside from Rosso Scuderia which is a brighter, more "orange" red w/o being orange, and Rosso Barchetta which is a darker "blood" red. Anything from the Rosso Corsa range will work. Tamiya TS Italian Red is going to be 99% correct, and the other 1% doesn't really matter since everyone sees colors a bit different, and they look so different indoors under artificial light vs. outdoors under natural light. Heck, on Saturday while looking at a 1:1 yellow Scuderia, it was at least two different shades of yellow; the front bumper was noticeably different than the sheet metal; doesn't show in photos but even my half-blind friend could see the difference in person.
crispy Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Thanks Bob! Great Input! You know I have a hard time painting Ferrari's red. I had to build this car though. Just too cool not too. My initial plan was Tamiya's Italian Red, then something came up as far as color was concerned so I'm kind of waiting on that right now. Nothing like an honest remark from you Bob Thanks! Chris
Brendan Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 To get a better red finish, lay down a coat of pink first. That's what I do whenever I'm painting cars red. Makes the red look better. Leaving for the races tomorrow. Should be back late Sunday. Hopefully I'll have some good pictures.

crispy Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Hey Brendan, you back yet??? Hope you had a good time. Ran into a few more problems with this kit. The rear panel and rear exhaust all need to be sanded down or material removed to get the Challenge pieces to fit. I would have never thought I would need to do so much work on this kit. I'm getting close to purchasing another Fujimi kit with the correct Challenge body. I'm going to keep on trying though. See if I can't utilize some modeling skills. Chris
The Phenom Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 hi crispy .i have that car and it has a few problem fit with not only the carbon and tail parts.,to correct the car you need to relocate the tail lights because there are located in wrong position and the tail panel needs a little filling and sanding to fit propertly.to correct the taillights use the light parts from enzo ferrari (tamiya)and open all the bases from the fujimi kit to fit the lights from the enzo.if you have a picture from real car note the rear lights and the tail panel ,its require a little work but when you finished you will very pleased with the effort.

I'm looking at the pictures but not seeing it. Maybe a good nights sleep a good day at work and maybe I'll have a better night at the bench. Then and only then I might be able to see what you are telling me. If you've done any work on this kit could you post the tail section of yours so I can see what you are doing? I understand what you are saying, but I'll have to take more time to look at the 1:1 pictures and better compare. Thank you for your input. It's very appreciated. Chris
The Phenom Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 tommorow i post a few ones .,thanks chris!

Chris Got back yesterday about 2 p.m. Having a hard time getting some of my pictures uploaded. Was not able to get too many good shots of the Ferraris in the paddock. A lot of areas were blocked off. Here's a couple of shots of what I have.
Nick F40 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 THANK YOU Brendan, great race I heard, but taped it, so I'll have to see the pathetic coverage. paint it red...or blue! I like the Corsa 300 and 322 but those Scuderias Oh man what beauties!
