Yes it's an Italeri kit so it's not accurate in all aspects, Italeri is known to take shortcuts when they do model their truck kits and use the same old stuff for kits that shouldn't have it.
The engine is an old Cummins NTC but it's made up to look more like a N14 as they tooled up a air to air intercooler setup instead of the water to air aftercooler it originally had and thought that would do...but nooo that's not right, the head and valve cover area on a N14 definately don't look like it does on the NTC.
Italeri did tool up a new correct rear suspension for the FLD tho' as it has the later FAS II Airliner suspension instead of the older FAS Airliner used on the FLC kit the FLD is based on, the old Airliner is the same suspension as the Western Unit Stabilaire that Peterbilt used in the late 60's and that suspension is in the AMT Peterbilt 359 California Hauler and 352 COE and Freightliner took over it after Peterbilt stopped using it...but the FLD has the later FAS II Airliner.

Now, I know this thread is about the Freightliner FLD120, but it got me thinking about my Revell of Germany Freightliner FLC (which I believe is a rebox of the Italleri kit):

How accurate is this kit?  Is the Cummins NTC the correct era for this truck?  If I followed Force's comments correctly, the FAS Airliner suspension is correct for this kit.

Hello Jim , no problem with the FLC Freightliner .The right frame , the right engine, the right suspension at the right place !? . It’s the same for the 378 Peterbilt , they are both very  good kits , the others are wrong ( except the VN Volvo , but it has not engine).       Philippe.

Yes it's the same kit as the Italeri and Revell reboxed several Italeri kits.
Italeri tooled up two basic chassis and drive trains for the US kits and they were in all US truck kits they did, the one originally in the Peterbilts and the other originally in the Freightliner FLC, all their Peterbilts has the same stuff and most of the other US kits they did has the Freightliner stuff together with some retooled parts in some of them, so they can be slightly different but the base is the same.
The exception is the Volvo VN wich is totally different and has no engine as Philippe said.

My 2 cents is this Italeri freightliner should of had the condo sleeper roof and  what Force was saying the N14 Cummins engine .

While a condo would have been nice, I cut my teeth on two separates FLD-120 22 years ago that were flat tops just like the Italeri kit. The first had a gutless piece of junk M11 Cummapart, thankfully a real engine resided under the hood of the second one with a 470HP Detroit Series 60, and that is the only thing I would like to see more of in truck kits in general is more Detroits because my junk box is getting full of those junk Cummaparts. I never liked them in the 1:1s I drove and I don't like them under the hoods of my builds either.

The Italeri FLD 120 is very accurate.  The frame, drive line, cab is virtually spot on.  Remember, this subject was originally issued in 1995 by Italeri, which would make it an early FLD 120 edition.  I'm not sure if the Cummins NTC was an option in the FLD back in the mid 1990s.  All of the early model FLD trucks I have seen had the Detroit Diesel Series 60 Mark 1 power plant.   The Cummins NTC was standard for the FLC model, which represents a mid to late 1980s subjects.

My FLD was built in the late 1990s.   I used the Clint Freeman resin Detroit Diesel Series 60 Mark 1 instead of the kit Cummins NTC engine.  The Italeri Detroit Diesel that is used in the Peterbilt kits represents is actually a DD Series Mark 2.  For the sticklers, to use the MK 2 DD as a replacement in the Italeri FLD 120, a second generation FLD would have to be crafted.  ex. integral sleeper and cab, condo roof, etc.
